Default And we are go for LAUNCH!!! WOOOOOOOooooooooooooooooooooot!!

    {Just so everybody knows, I cleared this with Xianti and the admins already, so don't go all crazy on me. Thanks. }

    Hey everybody!

Following the footsteps of givememyleg (http://www.flopturnriver.com/phpBB2/...ighlight=wrizz), I thought that it would be hue of me to include my FTR brothers (and sisters…well, Courtie ) in the launch of my business.

    http://www.sagestats.com/

What is SageStats? It’s a meld of pokercharts (back when they were free) and pokertracker. It will analyze your bets for you to show you your strengths and weaknesses and allow you to keep track of your bets.

The software is designed to help bettors analyze their betting portfolios for faults and for strengths. In this way, you can cut out the fundamentally unprofitable portions of your betting portfolio and increase the weights on the portions of your portfolio that are making you money.

What you do is record your bets with the site after making the bet at an online sportsbook. The software on the site then performs analysis on these bets, the results of which can be found on the 'my stats' page. From here, you can dissect and analyze your betting portfolio from many different angles.

We designed the process to enter bets to be really easy and intuitive…or so we think. It’s designed the way that most sportsbooks work, with one little wrinkle. The dropdown menus for the various bets possible on a game are our invention. Let us know what you think, please?

It’s also really easy to share your stats with other people. Check out mine or someone else’s.

So I was wondering if y’all could do me a favor? Check out the site and let us know what you think? Try things out. Create an account (it’s FREE), enter some bets, get them analyzed. Play around with the site.

Really, let us know anything that you think about the site: layout? Design? Ease of Use? Relevance of the data? My face? Anything.

Don’t be afraid to be mean. We’re going to go full out launch soon in time for the NCAA tournament, so we want to make this site as prepared as possible for that launch.

You can either post in this thread, PM me directly, or use our feedback page to let us know what you think.

Oh: and following in the theme of givememyleg’s thread, here’s some crazy pictures of me and my buddy that worked on the site a lot:

That would be me, right after the Texans beat the Colts. Woooot!

That would be my buddy (who's an amazing coder)

That would be us at Texas vs OU. No. I don't really know why I put this here.

To get back on topic, PLEASE create an account check out the site at http://www.sagestats.com/ and let us know what you think. It'll make us feel better about ourselves.

    No hindsight for the blind.
Cliff notes: You made a sport bets tracking site and people should check it out.

Is this correct? If so, nh sir. Wont check it out myself because I don't bet on sports, but it could be of good use to those who do.

I don't bet on sports either, but this looks like a cool site that would helpful for people that do.

While looking over the site, I noticed a few grammar mistakes and writing style suggestions. Some of them are pretty nit-picky, but that's what you're looking for, right?

On the "Tutorials - Analyzing Your Bets" page:

    1. "When you're in a betting slump, you'll be able to look at your graph and see just how far you've come since you've started recording your bets."
The end should read "just how far you've come since you started recording".

    2. "The graph will keep yourself from tilting in the middle of a bad run, ensuring that you continue practicing sound money management and making sure that you don't _ everything."
There seems to be a word missing here before the word 'everything' (the word 'lose' perhaps?).

    3. In the same sentence, it should say "The graph will keep you from tilting", not 'yourself'.

On the "Tutorials - Entering Your Bets" page:

    4. "So you've made your bet with your sportsbook already and now want to go and record it here at SageStats."
"want to go and record" is needlessly wordy and might sound better as just "want to record".

On the "Recording Your Bets" page:

    5. "Just got done placing your bets? After you finish making your bets at your sportsbook, come here and record your bets here at SageStats!"
Grammatically, the first occurrence of the word 'here' should be removed. So it should read "come and record your bets here". Stylistically, it might be better to be even more terse and get rid of the "come and" part completely, making the highlighted fragment just say "record your bets here".

    6. In the same snippet, the word "bets" shows up 3 times in two short sentences (which makes it sound a little awkward), and the first clause of the second sentence says almost the same thing as the first sentence. You might want to consider just rewriting this part altogether.

Sweet, my page (woot cleveland and clearing a bonus)

    http://www.sagestats.com/view.php?uid=322425142

    My thoughts:
    1) clean up the url for the image:
    http://www.sagestats.com/include/gra...ph+of+Profit&d[]=0&d[]=47.169811320755
The "my stats" url is clean, this sucks. It also wouldn't work with [img] [/ img]tags because it doesn't end in .jpg, .png, etc

    2) provide a smaller image so people could add a visual link to their sig, e.g. ...
    <-- click on me

    and provide the code...
    Code:
I haven't played with anything else, maybe I'll start adding fake bets to see what's up
    (\__/)
    (='.'=)
    (")_(")

Thanks for the feedback and the ideas so far, guys.

nonsequitor: I'll change the text as soon as I can. Thanks so much!
Swiggidy: Yeah, we are going to implement something like that soon. Thanks for the input

Keep the ideas and the comments coming, guys! It helps a lot! (and you know, inflates my ego. )

looks pretty cool sir, the only thing i would change is the font of the sage bets at the top, it looks kinda toys-r-us cookie cutter, which sports betters are not.

Ok. Cool. I'll go and see if I can't go and have another artist give it a crack.

    Thanks for the input, Trikflow!

If anybody's going to be paying attention to the NCAAB tourney, this is also a valuable tool.

Just thought I'd give y'all another incentive to register.

Looks very cool lee. Nice work!

I registered and if I ever start betting on sports again, which is quite likely, I'll definitely use it.

Same way that pokercharts initially did.

Word of mouth and offering a superior, useful product. Why? You have ideas? I'm more than open to them.

No, actually TBH it was just one of those random musings that floats into your head that's semi-related to something. No ulterior motive here or anything. Good luck with this.

Submit your website to search engines and such. Word of mouth won't get you too far on the internet, even if your product is superior. You need traffic and hits. If you haven't already, you should submit your sites to google, yahoo, lycos etc etc. There are also other various website submittors out there, most of which cost money, but guarantee traffic and such. Craigslist is also a handy tool for free advertising/promotion.

With my business we have been using a lot of the free advertising as you suggested, but are now moving towards paying for banners/ads. Word of mouth has actually been pretty good to us as many customers have been referring their freinds, (one who actually bought a package for nearly every damn person they know), but it can only take you so far. I don't know many sportbetters, but I'll definitely keep your website in mind if the subject ever comes up!

Do you have experience with those website submittors? How do they work? And did they help you?

Good stuff, I'd use it if I bet sports. :P

Sorry, don't mean to be a fucking nit, but in the end of the last paragraph above "You already know how to use Sagestats" there's a wee typo: "and winng money."

How do you plan to make money from this? Flat fee per month? Online referrals?

Thanks for the heads up on the typo.

Eventually, I plan to charge the sportsbooks to continue having their name on the site.

For now, I don't mind running it at a loss for 6 months to a year or something like that. Maybe eventually, we'll ask for donations like pokercharts used to, but I'm good for now, as long as I know that it's helping other people.

I don't think that's going to work. That's what they pay affiliates for, and they'll probably just tell you to open an affiliate account.

Hey y'all. I thought I'd keep you abreast of the development of the site as it happens.

Lots of people asked for a way to manually enter in your bets at books that we don't currently support or a exchanges where the odds change by the minute. Well, we've figured out a way to do it for ya!

    http://www.sagestats.com/entering.php

If you look at the bottom of the page, you'll see a "SageStats Book". This is where you'll be able to manually enter in the details of your bet. Your details will be verified (For instance, you can't enter that you got +200 on a bet where everyone else is getting +115), so that your credibility remains intact.

In what situations would you use this?
    1) If you entered in a bet at a book, but the line has changed by the time you got to SageStats
    2) If you entered in a bet at a book we don't support (or an exchange)
    3) If you bought/sold points or are receiving a free half point in basketball from one of the books that is offering it

In this way, you won't have to sacrifice accuracy of your data in order to use SageStats. If you got +132 on a bet on a book not supported by SageStats, and the SageStats books are only offering +130, you can use this tool to accurately record your bet. 2 cents here and there can add up quickly!

Allrighty: let me know what y'all think, or if y'all find any bugs.

I know that lots of you said that SageStats would be more useful to you if you could manually enter your bets, so...here you go!

If y'all have any other ideas, let us know. We're always working on trying to make it easier to use or more useful for our users.

    Thanks again guys!

    -ensign_lee

    Also, koomoe:

You'd be surprised what a talk with an affiliate manager can do. I plan on being more than just a simple affiliate once we get a certain number of users.

    I don't think so.

    A) I didn't know they existed
    B) Sage is an english word meaning smart, or alternatively, wooded (like a forest). The second one makes no sense and the first one is the one I'm trying to go for.

Unfortunately they do exist, and they're a big, nasty corporation. I'd definitely recommend you ask a lawyer or someone who knows these things - usually you're fine as long as there is no overlap between the businesses, but Sage do make accounting packages etc. They may also feel that you're taking advantage of their name to drum up business - it doesn't matter that they're wrong, if a court decides they're right - and in my very limited knowledge this seems a real possibility - then at best you'd have to rebrand, at worst you could end up sued.

It's all part of due diligence - if you're serious about this business you've got to be sure that things like this aren't going to stymie you. Perhaps any FTRers who know copyright/IP/business law could comment?

Lee - looks great! I was browsing the site and came across a typo in your "About Us" page -- "We thought that it would be a fun and challenging project to create a web-bsaed". Just a heads up. Hope it works out for ya.

biondino: Are they an english company? I only ask because they would have a much harder time litigating against us for that reason. Also, what should I do then? Send them a link and say "Hey! Is this ok?" I dunno. I do appreciate the heads up though

kmind: Thanks for the kudos and thanks for the heads up on the typo! (Yay for typing in notepad!)
