    Default Which Web Browser?

Not sure which one to go with. I have the new Microsoft internet explorer and it's pretty good. You can do tabs and save sites as groups and open them all up at one time. I hear Firefox is better though and does the same thing. What are your opinions?

Ffox, tool bars in the upper right hand corner, :shipitcrucial:

I have heard alot of good things about Opera as well, it's really popular in Europe.

Also, can people comment on whether any of these will interfere with other applications?

Thx. I'll add Opera to the poll.

Edit: How do I add Opera to the poll? I can't figure out how to edit the poll.

Firefox wins and it's not even close. Anything the new IE can do better natively (and that isn't much), FireFox has a plugin for. Not to mention the thousands of other plugins firefox has. Yeah, the new IE is way better than the old one, but it's still not as good as FireFox.

Firefox security holes get fixed within a day or two, and usually fixed properly, not just band-aid patched

IE holes don't get fixed sometimes, even in new releases

    Opera !!!
(and I'm in Europe if you ask)
After using it for months, everything else is suboptimal.

I'm gonna give firefox a try again. I got a new laptop and never bothered downloading firefox because last time I had it I couldn't get any form of media to play in the browser. Dampened my pornament watching big time.

    Suggestions on needed plugins?!?

well i know for flash content FF was able to find the plugin on it's own and install it for me after clicking the error message that appears in place of the actual content.

i also hate the lack of tool bar customization in ie7. the way it is laid out with the back & forward buttons way on the left, the stop and refresh buttons way on the right, and the home button on the far right in a separate toolbar below is just ridiculous.

one annoying thing is how ie and ff display differently. this is a problem with ie though really. it's just that ie is so friggin popular that web designers must design for both or just ie alone.

You shouldn't need them for video etc. My list:
Adblock - necessity, the biggest reason why firefox pwns IE
Download Statusbar - new one, not sure what I think yet
DownThemAll - Super critical for porn collection
Duplicate Tab - Rarely use this functionality, but it's nice
    FireFTP
    ForecastFox
Google Toolbar - I like the quick link for maps, spellcheck is a little better than what's built into 2.0, up one level button, word search highlighter, and "find next" for the searched words

As a web developer by profession, I can say that having to deal with IE's idiosyncracies and lack of standards compliance triples development time for front-end components like css and javascript. You get something working beautifully in 90% of web browsers, but it breaks in IE. But of course since 85% of users use IE (or whatever the actual number is), I have to fiddle with it until works with IE too. IE is a fucking pain in the ass to develop for.

Download Statusbar isn't that new. I've been using it for as long as I've been using firefox (which has been years).

But I think it's great. Makes it very easy to keep track of downloads and progress without getting in the way. The most intuitive download tracker I've seen, much better than Firefox's native clunky download manager.

Anyway, besides the plugins swiggidy mentioned, some good ones are:

FlashGot -- For big downloads that might take hours, this can sync firefox up to a 3rd party download manager (I use Free Download Manager). Then you can close firefox and let your downloads happen.

Location Navigator -- Let's you cycle through pages that have the same url except for one number, which you can increment or decrement with buttons on the toolbar.

Fasterfox -- Lets you adjust some built in settings and throttles that firefox has (including max simultaneous downloads), as well as providing background performance boosts.

MediaPlayerConnectivity -- This one I really like, though I think it might have some memory leaks that occasionally cause firefox to crash. Worth it though. Instead of automatically playing embedded media, it displays a holder box in its place. Inside the box are some controls, including one to play the media in its embedded place, one to play the media in a full screen media player, and a link to download the embedded media.

Disable Targets For Downloads -- A simple one, but useful. Sometimes firefox will open a new blank window before downloading a file. If you encounter this problem, this plugin fixes it.

Flashblock -- Automatically blocks all flash controls, requiring you to click on them to activate them. It's easy to toggle on and off. I usually leave it on, because usually flash annoys me, but if I am in a page where there is lots of flash that I want to see, etc.. I can just turn the blocker off until I am done.

refspoof -- A tool for URL referer spoofing. There is no legitimate reason why you'd need this.

    I meant new to me.

The disable targets problem is fixed in Firefox 2.0.

    No hindsight for the blind.
Opera <3. But ff is better for porn, if by porn you mean downloading a bunch of short clips to a folder witout hassle.

I think the anti-phishing thingy in the new IE is a good idea, though.
