    Default What's your background?

Just wondering what mentality tends to lend itself to this forum and poker in general. I am an analytical chemist, with a degree in mechanical engineering. I know Fnord used to work for M$ and did a lot of work on MSN, and Xianti did the crappy menus for the Stu Ungar movie.
A lot of posters here are still in school, but I was wondering what you're gonna be when you grow up.
To win in poker you only need to be one step ahead of your opponents. Two steps may be detrimental.

What's Econ? -- I know it's technically, liberal arts, but I put it under science because of it's logic/numbers orientation.
    I'm a know-it-all.

    No, really.
  3. #3
I'll give you econ, but poli Sci is less a science than astrology.

BTW, how do I edit my poll? I wanted a "Who needs school when you have poker?" option

Not the best example of my work. I had no assets and only like 2 weeks to do it.

I voted "dropped out of college." I actually never went to a "real" college. Just took some classes at a community college, but never finished it nor got a degree in anything.

I started as an artist in a T-shirt graphics shop, and found myself going from one designer job to another and taught myself (or learned on the job) all the tools of my trade along the way.

This forum has some highly inelegant people at it, thus why FTR's players are good at poker...

I'm a computer engineering major personally... just got done with 2nd year (got a ways to go...)

<-- turning 33 on wednesday. happy birthday to me.

i think that FTR is a self-selecting group of science geeks. surely there are many non-analytical people out there playing poker, but they are not surfing the internet for advice on how to calculate the odds on their combination flush/gutshot/overcard draw. that's what nerds like us do. so it should be no surprise that the poll shows that this site is 50% nerds.

we used to act like we were other people. for example, he would be calling roll and say "boostnslide" and I would raise my hand and he would be me. Then we would have a competition to see who could get the other in the most trouble

I dropped out of college when I had a ton of credits. I had a little endeavor which involved moving to another city, which failed miserably. I moved back, and had some options.

So instead of going back to school, I joined the Coast Guard. I find out when I leave for bootcamp Sept 12th. The benefits will definitely outweight the negatives, and when I get out i'll have a horde of cash saved up.

I also feel like college isn't for me right now. Not that I lack the ability, I just lack the passion that is needed to really excell in a specialized field, AND i don't want to waste $40,000 on an education I'm not totally obsessed with.

When the time comes, I will be completely devoted to it.

    no shit

notice the "in a few years" though we will have to allow for aces improving to insane levels ofcourse, so better make it like 10 years or so. Look at it like.. will be as good as or better than he currently is, by the time i'm the same age. Atleast that will be the aim.
