Default Who's it gonna be in '08?

In the interest of getting a spirited political debate happening, who do you think are going to get the Democratic and Republican nominations? Who's going to be the next President of the United States?

We've got a little under 2 years to make this the longest FTR thread ever.

Obama's da man, but I don't think he has a shot of winning the primary.

Most likely Biden as demo nominee.... although Clinton is fuckin loaded with campaign funds.

I can see any combination of a Clinton/Edwards/Obama ticket for the Dems...but I'm impressed with Biden lately, too, not that my opinion matters, being Canadian.

    No clue on the GOP.

Dems will go with Clinton and get absolutely fucking destroyed by Guilliani on the GOP ticket.

Two New yorkers though, and either one of them will tell the religious conservatives to stfu - hopefully.

    *shudder*

When you play name association and say "Guilliani" the first thing I think of is "black man shot 50 times" which required one officer to reload his weapon.

One was in 1999(?) I'm not sure when the other one was. I'm not sure why it doesn't make sense.

I would totally vote for Arnold. Too bad he cant' run.

there have been pushes in the past to let those born outside of the U.S. run, it wouldn't surprise me if something changed so he could...

I'm half-kidding, but I'm not really kidding at all when I say that Arnold could win in '08. You heard it here first.

    P.S. I'm not even saying I like the guy, I'm a democrat....but I could see it happening.

There was one in 2006 where a guy was shot at 50+ times and one officer had to reload and he was killed, and Guilliani isn't mayor anymore..

Or the Dems will go with Clinton and get destroyed by McCain. Either scenario is relatively likely IMO. And I don't think it's because the country isn't ready for a woman president as much as it is just a lot of people really don't like Hilary Clinton as a political figure.

Personally (from my pretty uniformed stance) I kind of don't like the overall political stance of any of the candidates that ranked high in polls, except for maybe Guiliani's, but I dislike him as a person, and I dislike his political party more than I dislike the other one.

Agreed. Almost any candidate that has a winning shot will be way ahead of Bush, so whatever happens in '08 should be an improvement.

I disagree and think it's sad that people feel this way. Hillary inspires a lot of negative feeling because of how she was portrayed in the media when she was first lady and now a senator... as a cold, ultra-liberal, power-hungry bitch. Some of that is deserved, but she's also very intelligent and pretty open-minded, which would be a huge improvement over our current president. My main problem with her is that she's another phony politician and I'm sick of those. Still, I think she's electable b/c female voter turnout is going to be off-the-charts if she's the Democratic nominee.

I like Obama b/c he never supported the war and seems committed to changing the culture of Washington politics, as impossible as that may be. I don't think he's unelectable because he's black, but possibly because he has so little experience.

I despise McCain. He's the ultimate phony politician, all the while claiming to be the only straight-talker in Washington. He's changed his opinions on several core issues to satisfy the Republican Christian conservative base and is an even bigger hawk than Bush. If he's elected I think we'll have war with Iran within a year.

I didn't say I'm not ready, or the majority of FTR, or thinking people, or even a general urban population isn't ready. I still feel a large portion of our population is god fearing, backward thinking, rednecks (or hilljacks, briar hoppers, hicks, etc.).

In Ohio I have no doubt that Hillary or Obama would win by a large margin in Columbus, win soundly in Cleveland, and win by a thin margin in Cincinnati. Problem is that's only 3 million out of 12 million. It's not enough to overcome the backwardness of the rest of the state.

I agree it is a very sad situation.

Isn't that sad, really, I know so many people that don't follow or even vote, it's pathetic.
These same people get all pissed off when someone makes some stupid law, or there taxes go up. Thats when I tell them to shut the F!@# up. Youre only allowed to bitch if you voted. Otherwise shut up.
