    Default Willburs Chicken Van

    Hey all....

finally, after many, many delays my new venture is ready to hit the road.

Please check out the website, FB page, Twitter. All likes, tweets etc much appreciated.

I've still a few things to do (prob gonna paint the van), but I'm planning on getting out and about next week. Any FTR's in London when I'm selling who mention FTR to me will get mates rates fo sho. Updates on where I'm selling on website, FB and twitter.

    Website: Funky Chicken
FB : Funky Chicken | Facebook
    Twitter: https://twitter.com/FunkyChickenVan

    WBF x

(ps radmins - this was ok when I checked with you about 6 months - hope it still is!!!)

Yeah the real van looks nothing like that mockup from the last thread...

This is awesome, if I ever head up the M4 I'll be sure to look you up. GL!
Congratulations, you've won your dick's weight in sweets! Decode the message in the above post to find out how to claim your tic-tac

Best of luck, man. A visit from me will obviously be unlikely, but if I ever hear of anyone taking a trip of London, I'll see if I can't give ya the world-famous viva bump.

just thought i'd give you heads up that it should be "marinated" and not "marinaded". You use a marinade in order to marinate.
  9. #9
but awesome that you've taken the initiative to start up a business, congrats!

I pretty sure it is marinaded - I checked with a copy writer!!!

I'm ready to be proved wrong?!?!?!

Marinate vs. Marinade - Education Bug

Perhaps it's a case where a common mistake just became part of the lingo until it became accepted.

"Interestingly, marinade as a verb entered English around forty years before it was first used as a noun, but also about forty years after the form marinate was first used in English."

Kinda like how "nucular power plants" is normal English in some parts of the world, I conjecture.
  12. #12
    hmmmmmmmmmmm.

I'm leaving it as is. Marinading sounds more natural to me!

good luck. I assume you've already watched all the seasons of great food truck race?

cool man, glad to see you are well on your way. Gotta ask, what's up with the menu? There are three sandwiches and two are nearly identical...?
  17. #17
I'm keeping it really, really simple to start.

    My idea is:

Hot spicy one, BBQ, plain one, then a special (see whats happening that week - ie if Chinese new year, I'll do Chinese inspired one).

They do all taste very diff, but I'm open to change. Need to see what people like.
    Normski
  18. #18
they may taste different, but if I'm looking at your menu, I see only two options, as hot and spicy and BBQ are fairly redundant. I like really tight focused menus, but in a really tight focused menu, there should be absolutely no redundancy... that's pretty much the point of having a tight focused menu.

I would nom the shit out of your entire menu

    but I'm fuckin hungry atm

I imagine I'd go for the clinton classic if I were just moderately hungry. spicy food can fuck right off imo. unless it's thai food. mmm, thai food.

Marinaded - 350,000 results on Google. Google asks "Did you mean: marinated ?"

Marinated - 14,000,000 results on Google.

Fire your copy writer. He's daft.

Listen to this man, he knows his food.

I've never experienced BBQ sauce that was truly hot and spicy, so I disagree.

    You sir have not lived.

But even if the BBQ is more sweet and smokey, while the other is sour (vinegar) and spicy-- they are pretty much the only things distinguishing the two sandwiches. How about different buns to pair with the different sandwiches, or one comes with slaw on it while the other has the traditional lettuce/tomato/onion toppings? Already we only have chicken breast sandwiches, we've pigeon holed ourselves already; this doesn't have to be a bad thing, but not being creative within the self imposed confines of your theme makes it a bad thing imo.

Hm, this man does talk some sense. Listen to him.

I get what you mean, but they are very diff.

You have the diff cheeses and bacon on the BBQ one. Plus like you say the BBQ is sweet. The Funkadelic is piquant and fiery.

I do see what you mean - I'll look at re-wording the menu a bit I think.

Papas Got a Brand New Bap is the tag line where people can choose from a couple of breads. I'm at the bakers tomorrow testing what I'm going to use.

Ya this. Anything crispy chicken with Spicy (Franks, Srirachi, or any) hot sauce with a blue cheese is a great sandwich to be buffalo chicken style.

Why would tits ever mean rubbish? Do you guys hate tits in the UK or what?
  36. #36
lol - we say "tits up" as in "the business has gone tits up", meaning gone wrong.

You could say "tits" as in "fuck". Like if you hit you finger with a hammer. Or you call someone a tit, meaning a bit of a plonker. A kind of affectionate dickhead.

But we would never say something is the tits. The dogs bollocks, the bees knees, the real deal etc etc but I've never heard tits used in that way.

I like tits though. Very much. MMMMMmmmmmmmm tits.

This looks amazing! Good luck with it!

I've spotted one other typo. On the menu section of the website under "Papa's Got A Brand New Bap", you have "fesh daily selection" instead of "fresh daily selection".

It makes sense if you think of it as cockney rhyming slang, fesh like John Tesh; chicken breast like smooth white man jazz piano.

Its been good - very steep learning curve to say the least. I've made about £100 over 2 days lol. Ordered too much stock so have had to bin lots of food....but know what i'm doing now I think.

I've got a big event on Sunday at Ally Pally which sounds like it'll be a goldmine (though as I've learned this last week you never know).
Back at Camden on Tues through till Friday.

Whitecross St...I wish. On the waiting list.

Fking knackered......up at 5.30am everyday, home at 7ish, prepping for the next day till 10ish...bed....up at 5.30.......loving it though. Having a few drinks tonight then prepping again tomorrow. Roll on Monday after hopefully making a killing on Sunday......
