    Default Wireless Internet Help

Not sure if this goes here or "Tools". I have two laptops, one a Sony and the other a Dell Latitude. My Sony connects to my wireless router Netgear no problem and stays connected. The Dell connects and then loses connection every few seconds. The Dell will also allow me to connect to sites like usatoday.com but won't let me connect to sites like msn.com or cnn.com (these are examples I am not a news freak, I also look at a lot of porn). My driver seems current. I have checked the Dell site and my driver appears to be the most current. Anybody out there that understands what I'm talking about and can help?

Is your wireless network secured or is it open? Are you using Windows to control your wireless card or are you using some kind of extra utility?
Oh well, what can you do? It's all just Snakes on a Plane.

Mine works fine with a netgear. I'd try calling Dell, good tech support.

The Dell is my company's computer. I had the same one with my previous company and it worked perfectly. That's why I thought that it may be a driver issue. I guess I will have to call Dell.

Have you tried to connect to other open wireless networks (local coffee shops, neighbors, whatever...they are everywhere).

If you can successfully connect to others, then I would suspect your router. Netgear is pretty average with regards to their wireless routers, or so I have heard.

If you can't connect to anything, then your hardware may be bad.

I'm assuming that the computer that can connect and your Dell are roughly in the same physical location so it's not a case where you are trying to connect with a microwave between your Dell and your router.

Yes, I can connect with other wireless. Which makes this weird. It seems that the signal from Netgear may be the issue. Nope, no microwave issues. Maybe I should connect the net directly to my laptop and see if it's an IP thing.

Connecting it is probably a good idea. If you can connect to other wireless networks, it's probably not an issue with the laptop.
