On the discovery channel I watched this thing on incest, it was really weird. One couple was split up at birth, but as young adults met in a club. evolution isnt perfect, and with regards to breeding selection, it seems that our genes evolve towards sexual preference for the opposite gender that is close to our own, but also selects for our preferences to not be too close since that shit has happened a ton but they all just die off. so its somewhat natural to have sexual preferences for humans much like our mothers/fathers (and our relatives are that very much) which we actually see a ton of anyways. we're typically not attracted to that which is very close to home, but also not that which is very far from home. the evolutionary concepts of genetic drift and genetic flow will lay the fundamental reasons for why we evolve this way.

as to how much being raised around relatives affects our attraction to them is major speculation. it really could be anything from itty bitty to a lot.

take the cheetah for example; they are basically inbreds. at one point in their history cheetah population decreased to a very small amount. this reduced their genetic variability to just above the point of causing extinction. currently they are afaik the most inbred species on the planet; and due to this they have mega high infant mortality rates and such, and their ability to adapt to environment is crap. compare cheetahs to tigers. a tiger can adapt to most earthy environments, whereas a cheetah will die pretty much anywhere other than where they are now.

anyways, i have a couple second cousins that ive seen one time and i recall myself being very attracted to them. so yea i would schtupp them but i wouldnt make babies. i actually have a hypothesis which im gonna one of these days get the input from people who actually know this stuff which is basically that our offspring will actually be more healthy if our partners are as different from us as they can be. like since im white/ginger/central european/UKish i should make babies with black/azn/latin women instead of women from the aforementioned regions. theoretically this would provide with the highest genetic variability which is pretty much the most important factor towards fitness/survival.

my point other than rambling is basically that sexual attraction isnt a perfect thing. a great example is homosexuality. for a while, scientists have been baffled at how homosexuality can exist because it only makes sense that due to its colossal negative impact on reproduction of those imbued with the trait that homosexuals should all have died off and we shouldn't have any today. but we do.

the most current research on this subject strongly suggests that a big reason for homosexuality in males is a gene expression which increases female attraction to men also can create this increased attraction to men in men. so there you have a very natural reason for why something exists that 'shouldnt'; it suggests that there may be a natural reason for the existence of attraction to relatives.
