June 8th - It was the first week of June, which meant the popular FTR500 series continued! The FTR500 is a $5 private tournament for FlopTurnRiver members, held at Full Tilt Poker. This special tournament is on the 5th each month, and has $500 added to the prize pool! All you have to do is be a registered forum member to play. However, it was a special edition this month because June 5th marked the one year anniversary for the FTR500!
Normally adding $500 to the prize pool is enough to make members happy, but since it was the one year anniversary, FTR added even more money and bonus prizes! This sure did attract the players, as 65 people came to try and collect some of the bonus money. For this special event, FTR added the usual $500, and awarded 1st – 3rd with $100 extra in cash! On top of that, the players had seven different ways to earn some Full Tilt or FTR Gear! 3rd – 6th place would get their choice of either some great Full Tilt Clothing or FTR Gear, and if you made it heads up, you got your choice of both! There was also a bounty on veteran FTR member, bigspenda73, which awarded a choice of clothing. With 65 people, and the extra cash added, the total prize pool ended up being $1,125! In all, 8 places were paid with first place being a total of $376, plus some great clothing!
Action got underway fast, and FTR member bigspenda73 knew he had a target on his chest. Early on he picked up AA and flopped another A, but unfortunately for him no one wanted to play back that hand. However it wouldn't be too long before he finally fell victim to player Maleficd, who scooped up the pot and the bounty!
After about 2 hours of grueling play, the 65 starting players had been reduced to the final table of 9. Tensions were high because 8 places paid, and with 9 remaining, everyone was hoping that the shorter stacks would wind up making a mistake. Leading his way to the final table was well known FTR member, Hartlin with 18k in chips. Joining him was another FTR member, Bbickies, however he was in rougher shape with 7k in chips. The other 7 players were pretty much unknown, with stack sizes ranging from 3k – 14k. The blinds were 250/500 so anything could still happen!
Right off the bat things didn't go well for Bbickies, as he got half his stack in with 88 against the short stack XxStacks60xX who held KT. The King on the flop gave XxStacks60xX a double up and left Bbickies in terrible shape. A few hands later XxStacks60xX finished him off when he trapped by limping in with AA, and Bbickies went all-in with AJ. No help came and Bbickies was the 9th place finisher, one spot away from the money.
The next few eliminations were, cookiejar18 in 8th for $24.75, bryn2 in 7th for $33, badmonk in 6th for $49.50, KronX in 5th for $66, and XxStacks60xX in 4th for $90.75. Also, badmonk, KronX, and XxStacks60xX all earned themselves a choice of Full Tilt or FTR Gear for making it this far! However, the remaining three players, Hartlin, keepitstrict, and kazor, were delighted because they were all guaranteed at least $219! Quite the payout for a $5 tournament!
When 3 way action began, Harltin was in the lead with 40k, followed by keepitstrict with 32k, and kazor with 24k. Blinds had jumped up to 800/1,600/200 so you knew the action would be fast. Hartlin began taking control of the table as the others were being passive. Hartlin was raising once every couple hands, taking down numerous uncontested pots. Kazor must have finally had enough of this, as Hartlin raises and kazor went all-in and was quickly called. Kazor showed A2 which was in bad shape to the JJ of Hartlin. No help would come and kazor finished in 3rd for $219.
When heads up play began, Hartlin was the clear favorite, with 79k to the 18k of keepitstrict. Hartlin was definitely more aggressive, winning the first few pots, then got all-in with K6 but was unfortunately dominated by keepitstrict who held KQ. Nothing promising came and keep got a nice double up. A few hands later there was preflop action of raise, re-raise, call, which led to the flop of 9J3 rainbow. Both players ended up all-in and Hartlin showed QT to the AJ of keepitstrict. The turn fell an A, the river bricked a 2, and keepitstrict was now the chip leader for the first time at the final table.
Play continued back and forth, until eventually the big showdown occurred. Keepitstrict raised, and Hartlin shoved all-in with 99, to which he was snap called by keep who was in bad shape with A4o. The flop was 763 all clubs, but no one held a club. However, the turn brought the Ah which was terrible news for Hartlin. No miracle 9 hit on the river and keepitstrict was the June 5th FTR500 champion! He won $376, and his choice of free Full Tilt and FTR Gear! Hartlin took home $269, and also free gear.
Out of the entire final table, only 2 well known FTR members were present. So this proves you can be an unknown like keepitstrict and still shine! Join us next month for the FTR500, which is on the 5th, every month!
