Here is how Full Tilt summarized FTOPS Event 12:

Two-Day Event Lets Player Showcase their Skills

We all know that live poker and online poker are very different games, but Full Tilt Poker aimed to narrow that gap with our first ever Two-Day Event. Starting with stacks of 5,000 chips − 250 times the big blind − and facing 30-minute blind levels, the 648 total entrants knew they had plenty of time to pick their spots and let their poker skills shine. With a total prize pool of $1.62 million and more than $396K for first place, this was going to be survival of the fittest.

Day one played out for a gruelling eight hours, with 78 players making the cut. Tournament host [Phil Ivey] played deep into day one of this $2,500 event − our largest buy-in ever. He was knocked out when his set of 7s ran into a set of 10s. Three Full Tilt Poker pros − Max Pescatori, David Chiu, and Eddy Scharf − all made it to day two of the event.

Day two started out playing even tighter than day one. 63 places were paid and nobody wanted to be the money bubble boy. It took nearly two hours of play to eliminate the 15 players needed to reach the money. SpikeTheAce, down to less than one big blind, somehow hung on and got into the money when a player at another table busted out with A-K versus pocket 3s. He would happily go out of the tournament on the next hand, and play did loosen up a bit after the money bubble was burst.

It took another three hours to reach the final table. All three pros and two former FTOPS champs − MasterJ33 and Hoodini10 − were eliminated along the way. Among the final table participants was Mattman14, the fourth-place finisher in Event #1. Chip stacks entering the final table were as follows:
    Final Table Chip Count
    Seat Player ID Chips
    1: Grndhg25 739,544
    2: soggy dogg 438,845
    3: SkinnyRick 237,377
    4: Viktor 472,617
    5: Batera 124,356
    6: fridhem 315,396
    7: Mattman14 183,263
    8: naskoxx 418,842
    9: bashup 309,760

Play was understandably tight at first, with so much money at stake and the blinds a mere 3,000/6,000. The first big hand happened when Mattman14 went all-in with pocket Kings and was called by Batera, who held pocket Aces. Mattman14 was covered by a little more than 3,000 chips, but a King fell on the flop, answering Mattman14’s prayers and crippling Batera.

The very next hand would see a player eliminated, but it wasn’t Batera. soggy dogg held A-Q and hit top pair on a flop of 9-8-Q. It was bad timing as he pushed all-in and was called by Grndhg25, who had flopped a straight with his J-10. The turn and river brought no help, and soggy dogg was the first player sent packing at the final table. Mattman14 finished off Batera on the next hand, as Batera was forced all-in with less than one big blind and holding a meager J-7. Mattman14 showed A-K and connected with a King on the flop, dooming Batera to an eighth-place finish.

Play steadied up for a while, but then it was fridhem’s turn to take the walk down bust-out lane. Moving all-in pre-flop with A-K, he ran into the Viktor’s pocket Queens. A Queen fell on the flop, and that was all she wrote for fridhem. naskoxx was next to go as he was all-in before the flop with A-Q, but was dominated when he was called by Grndhg25’s A-K. A Queen fell on the flop, but so did a King. With no help coming on the turn or river, naskoxx was sent to the rail in sixth place.

Blinds were now at 4,000/8,000 and five players remained. Grndhg25 held a massive chip lead with 1.9 million. His closest competitor, Viktor, had just more than 800K, while Mattman14 held fewer than 300K. SkinnyRick and bashup both had lots of work to do, as they hovered just above the 100K mark.

After break time, the blinds went up to 5K/10K, which spelled more bad news for the short stacks. Even so, both SkinnyRick and bashup managed to double-up, and it would be Mattman14 who was next to go. Holding pocket 6s, Mattman14 was all-in pre-flop against the K-10 of Grndhg25. A 10 fell on the flop, and with no 6 in sight on the turn or river, it was adios for Mattman14. Still, two final tables during FTOPS is nothing to sneeze at.

Four hands later, SkinnyRick left the table when his A-4 was dominated by Grndhg25’s A-K. Neither hand improved on the board, so SkinnyRick was out in fourth place. Grndhg25 now had a commanding 2.2 million chips as three-handed play was set to commence.

Back down to around 100k chips, bashup was left with one move only − pushing all-in. This strategy worked for a few rounds, and then bashup looked like he was about to double up when he was all-in pre-flop with pocket Queens versus Viktor’s pocket 8s. But an unlucky turn brought a third 8 for Viktor, and bashup couldn’t find another Queen on the river. His third place finish was good for more than $180K.

Heads-up play began with Grndhg25 holding a two-to-one chip advantage over Viktor. The railbirds were going completely nuts from the suck-out on the last hand and commentary in the chat box was moving a mile per minute. It would all be over within 10 hands.

On a flop of 8-A-8, Viktor pushed all-in holding 7-8. Although it’s hard to get away from trips, his timing couldn’t have been worse. Grndhg25 called and flipped his cards to reveal 8-Q. No 7 fell on the turn or river, and it was all over. Viktor was out in second place, winning $247,050 for his great play. But it was Grndhg25 who was king of the hill − claiming $396,900 for his two days of hard work − along with the coveted gold jersey avatar and the title and respect of FTOPS Champion.
