"SENDIT16" Wins HORSE Championship in FTOPS V Event #2
Right to the finish, the FTOPS V HORSE tournament featured gutsy poker and a lot of table talk. During heads-up play, the pots were getting so big that the fortunes seemed to turn with every hand – the big stack would taunt and then go quickly silent as the lead went back and forth. "SENDIT16" failed to make a straight during Stud Hi play and lost a 620,000 pot, to which "AngelTheresa" taunted "Naughty, Naughty," continuing the goading between the players.
Just a few hands after the big loss,"SENDIT16" made the chips back – and then some – with trip Aces, taking down a 1,120,000 pot. "AngelTheresa" was eliminated shortly thereafter when both players got all-in with pairs of Jacks. But,"SENDIT16" had the better kicker, earning the championship and $51,800 in first-place prize money. "AngelTheresa" can take solace in the $34,188 second-place prize.
With 22 players left, "AngelTheresa" held a commanding chip lead with over 500,000. The next closest player was eventual fifth-place finisher, "spence" with just over 280,000. "AngelTheresa" found early success by playing only premium hands in Limit Hold ‘em and Stud Hi, but lost an equal number of chips chasing cards in Omaha Hi/Lo. Once down to the final two tables, the chip counts were extremely unbalanced. The players recognized that five of the six chip leaders were at the same table and let off the accelerator until the short-stacks knocked each other out, conserving chips for the push to finish.
When the final table started, "SENDIT16" accumulated chips with aggressive play, bullying and knocking out the short-stacks. "GASSU" was the first player eliminated from the final table during Hold ‘em play when his A10 of hearts failed to improve against "SENDIT16’s" pocket Kings. "dandaman29" was the next player eliminated, missing a straight versus "RiverKill3er’s" AK after the King paired on the flop. A few hands later "SENDIT16" made a flush on the river, sending "spence" home in fifth place.
Though the railbirds flew the coop for the opening of the $150K HORSE event, they managed to migrate back and made their presence known as the final table played out – even the Event #1 champion, "Kadabra" made an appearance, calling for an FTOPS tournament of champions. But the chirping from the rail was no match for fourth-place finisher "RiverKill3er" who had the quote of the night with, "I play high-stakes jump rope" – one small part of the craziness at the final table.
Unfortunately, a sense of humor – or jump roping talent – was not enough to keep "RiverKill3er" in the tournament. After the break, "RiverKill3er" was silenced, mucking the elimination hand against "AngelTheresa’s" Ace-high flush, but still had a good laugh, taking home more than $12K for his fourth-place finish.
Third-place finisher, "joshuah333" was then crippled during the closing stages of Omaha Hi/Lo by "AngelTheresa’s" full house, and eliminated shortly thereafter in the opening stages of Razz play.
