    Default community forum

I think that this forum may be better served in a different location. Maybe it would be less of a hassle to FTR and the admin's if they didn't worry about new or potential members finding this forum so easily, or thinking it's part of the poker website. It is a necassary forum for obvious reasons but why have it right in the poker and strategy area. Maybe move it to another less obvious area.

No, not at all. I love it. But it basically has no boundries. And the fear is that it represents the actual poker content. I think it's needed to keep this stuff from spilling into other forums, but people get banned from things said in the forum that may/may not have been over the top. Obviously X has final say but I think it's gloves off when talking about personal/political/religious/humour issues. I think it would serve it's purpose somewhere else on the site and maybe not reflect on what FTR is trying to do with it's poker site. You don't need to bury it just have it a litttle more protected from the casual or first time lurkers and potential members. Just because we find it funny, not all will. Some of us have a better tolerance for humour. How would spoons fat freind find things in that forum as an example. If she becomes a member at FTR then all the people spewing insults should get strikes?? What if it's a member already. The line is very scewed depending on who or what is said and strikes and banning from things in the community may be over the top. It's all relitive to who reads it. I think if yu post anything in that forum you get what you deserve. It's opinions on life and we all have led different lives. I know some mothers of small children and alterboys will not find things funny in there, STRIKES???

i think there is a big difference between finding something not funny and attacking other members - As a personal note, I think the dead baby jokes are not funny, but more than that are tasteless and pretty vile - On the other hand getting personally attacked is a different story altogether...As far as I can tell, the only strikes have been given for personal attacks and then asking for one (i don't know why they do that, but when 6 people in a row ask and get one, why would you keep asking? lol) - I don't think we go overboard that much, and the things I find vile I just skip through...I think they are gross, but i'm not going to tell others how to live - I don't think we should censor ourselves though, because of a few people who are hyper sensitive and complain about it - im all for membership, but what have we lost when a overreactive reader gets all butt-hurt over some posts? The last one I even remember stemmed from another argument all together, and they used that as their fuel to attack FTR - I've had enough of being politically correct...i don't think we have to hide the fact that we have a lot of different personalities around here....

I think we may be on the same point, just a different angle.my point being what's a strike in the community. I think there are worse things than calling someone an asshole or telling them to fuck off. Point being, put it somewhere else and tell everyone the gloves are off in this forum and shut the fuck up. Calling someone an asshole in a strat forum for the way he played a hand is different from telling someone he's an asshole for posting a reply in someones humour / political / or almost dying post. Getting called a fuck or worse in the commune is par for the course and I think it's buyer beware. But in the beginner forum it's deffinitly over the top and unnecassary.

let people pound on each other in a super-secret cage match ultimate flaming forum

I like the way you think, but would it not be easier to just rename the commune. lol

Let's face it. The commune is a free-for-all inhabited by a handful of regulars with lots of stupid shit in it. It has already been demoted down the forum list so that it's not the first forum newcomers find. If that's what we're worried about, then let's make a "welcome" forum for noobs.

But it's not. That's the point. Is it or isn't it. I think it may as well be because the line is too hard to draw outside of the poker strats. If anything and everything is within the limits then fine, no strikes, no banning and defend yourself. No locking and no spilling over into other forums. Keep it contained and let it be. If there are rules, then stop the shit, all the shit, bad jokes, insults, pics without permission, religios convo's, anything that may be deemed inappropriate for anybody that may happen to be seen by outsiders. We need to define the commune, are there rules or not, if their are, then there is alot of work to do cleaning it up but if ther's not then you can't pick and choose what to lock, who to ban or what can be said. I vote the latter, organized chaos. X won't need to worry unless it's posted outside the community.

it's already been moved down, if you don't like what's going on in there don't frequent it etc etc.

from what I've seen you've been on both sides of the flaming/shit talking in there so you can't really complain much

Midas, I had no complaints. I was trying to offer a solution to FTR and Xianti having concerns about the direction the community forum is heading and it's reflection on this site to new members. I don't think it's a problem at all. I have been involved before yes, I didn't take any offence to anything said towards me. It's the internet, infact I was also flamed on IRC by the same people and ignored it totally. I have no complaints about the commune or what has been said or shown in there. My point was mearly that the line that is crossed is in the eye of the beholder and I don't think strikes or banning should happen from things that are in the community forum because of the wide range of topics, personalities and senses of humour. It has no reflection on FTR and there is no need for a heavy hand in that forum and that forum alone. And so it should just be moved to a less obvious place that may be harder to happen across by the casual or sensitive member/lurker with also a bigger warning in the heading. I think it needs less policing and more freedom for expression without reprecussions effecting our FTR posting. We have lost some good if not great posters in other forums because of things said and done in the commune.
