    Default The New Color Theme

Edit: Xianti fixed the part that made me complain. All is well again in Spoonyville.

It'll be alright. It will make more sense when all changes are done, but I'm doing it progressively so it doesn't freak everyone out.

Thanks for the vote of confidence, spoon.

Had to post this from IRC:

    [18:48] <d0zer> woah wtf...FTR theme change?
[18:48] <d0zer> orange as my poo today
[18:49] <oskar> I thought there was something wrong with my browser... have they really changed it to that?
    [18:49] <oskar> *eyecancer*
[18:49] <d0zer> i also feel myself coming down with a serious bout of eyecancer.
[18:50] <Jinxx> ya, the orange is so gross
  5. #5
I won't say it sucks, b/c I know the FTR admins must work hard etc., but I liked the blue.

    It is physically painful.

    Please change it back!

There are 2 colors that alternate as the background of the posts. The darker of the two is fine, but the lighter of the two is seriously hard to look at.

The orange and stuff I don't mind.
  12. #12
The lighter background is indeed blinding. The orange is also hideous.

Yeah i like this too much smoother and nicer to look at but still keeps the distinctive FTR feel, VERY NICE IMO

btw, I rated this thread as if I was rating the new color scheme... ONE SPADE
  16. #16
Give the ADMINS some credit and some time. When they switched to the last 5 themes everyone has bitched. Turns out they always argue for the last one and every time the new one is better.

ok... the "orange" is now paler and hopefully less offensive, while still consistent with the new left nav colors to come to the forum later.

As for the alternating bg colors, let's give this a few days and see if we can't get used to it.

    Thanks for rating, zook!

orange? They look almost white or off white to me. I do have my monitors dulled down quite a bit since having over 55" of monitor across can be blinding in itself. Maybe I need an adjustment to the palette.

We're referring to the color of the post header bars that separate one post from the next, not the bg color behind the body text.

What do you guys think of this for the post header bar (it's gradated)?

Or should I go back to the flat color?

hey, there is a new color scheme!

Though, to the people saying that "blah blah meow pa-chow the admins changed the colors before and ppl bithced but eventually liked it." I would contend that people eventually got used to it! I still don't like the text change of several years ago and I never really got into the last color scheme! So whatevs!

We'll be soon going back to a more browser-friendly font (sans-serif, for you graphics people), similar to what it was years ago, if not the same font.

So, I'm sure there will be another wave of protests when that happens.

Anything sans-serif is better for readability imo.

But, my right scroll nav button is blending in to the page and I can barely see it?

Not sure about the two tones together as backgrounds X. One is very cold greyish green and the other is a warmer pale beige. I didn't mind the single colour, but my scroll is also black from my Mozilla skin. The second colour is a little off.

    How about now?
  47. #47
Don't just take my word for it. My gamma could be a little off compared to others and those pale colours can flip a ton. If I alter my viewing angle lower it gets quite a bit yellower/stronger but it's still good and seems great from my regular angle. It is definitely redder now and really falls in line with the buttons at the bottom of the posts as well as the opposite colour too. They both seem to fade well into the button colour.
  48. #48
Those .ccs settings are a bitch eh? So many colours and so many php boxes and highlights. Move one and lose another. Just remember A-F 0-9 don't make "that" many combos, or do they?

These are about as dark as I can make the post bg colors while keeping white text more-or-less invisible.
  53. #53
I think the darkness is fine. Nothing is popping from brightness now and any lighter and a 22" has a beam of light coming from it. I like.

What text are you gonna use? can we play with that now?

Yeah. Just haven't changed it in the forum yet. May not change it until we switch to the new font... has to do with the CSS being different.
  58. #58
Xianti, I personally like the new scheme. When it kicked in I immediately said to myself, "wow, that looks better." The additional improvements over the last few days work well too.

Question -- Is there a mod for the type of forum we have that will eventually let each member pick their own theme/font? I've been on a message board that let you choose both before, or at least gave 4-5 different options to choose from...

The current one is fine, and those that don't think so will get used to it in time.....I was just curious.

Maybe, but it generally means each version of the forum style needs their own set of modifications when we change anything, which is why we don't have that option.

It may be possible once we make the move to phpBB3, but no guarantees.

Nice job with the colors, it looks great. I like the changes you made to the quote box colors especially.

The quoted text colour could do with being a little darker, my first reaction when I saw it was "ugh this is annoyingly hard to read" and I'm guessing that's not what you are going for!

Overall I think the new colour scheme looks great though!

This is Verdana. We might test another sans-serif font next month, Arial, but that's TBD. Either way, we will be keeping a sans-serif font.

I do like the old font (Georgia, a serif font), but it is a fact that most people find sans-serif to be easier to read on a computer screen, while serif fonts are more legible in print medium.

    Function has won over form.

Though, now that I've been seeing it for a while (we've been using this font outside of forums for a month), I really do like the crisp, clean look of the sans-serif.

Erm...guess we're going to agree to disagree. Anyway, you might want to bump up the point size of type appearing in quotes a tad.

I could never fix that. I made the quotes the same size now to address that bug -- in a different color box (diff from either alternating post bg color) to set it apart.
