Default Unfriendly mod? Welcome noobs, don't shun them.

So I start a thread on here thinking this is what the site advertises it to be, a place to learn about poker.

Instead of any help it feels like I am being chastised because I asked about play money. I have found no prohibition anywhere about talking about play money.

(The question was a thread in the online poker rooms about finding a site that has constant large field [play $] tourney and has the feel of an older poker room. It was locked almost immediately.)

    A reply about my question:

"come back when you have real cash on a site and I will show you how to change a skin. Don't post about play money in my forum again."

I do have a real cash account but that has absolutely nothing to do with the questions. In fact I think when I made the deposit I used a code from FTR! Why would it even need mentioned? It had no relevance to my question. None!

    Here is my feedback.

-Why the curt answer? If there is no prohibition on play money then what was the problem? It almost seemed that someone was looking down on me. I play to win and I win more than I lose. Play money helps keep things polished. (I'm not talking those dopes who go all in constantly because it is free!)

-Why assume that a forum noob does not have a cash account?

-"Your forum"? Does he own the site?

This seems to make no sense. I PM's the mod to ask about this but so far I have not received a reply. Just my two cents... Feedback? Don't shun the noobs!

Your question was looking for a site that has large field "play money tourneys" and had the same look and software as the old party poker site. I told you not to talk about play money in my forum and come back when you have real money on a site and I would show you how to change the skin so it would look like the old party poker. All I told you was not to post about play money again in my forum and locked it. You never mentioned anything about real money in your post and have not posted about it since until now.

Did you run to your mom or the teacher every time someone raised their voice?

The thread was locked so I could not post.

Again, the fact that I have a real money account has no bearing on anything other than what appears to be your personal opinion. Maybe there are play money only sites but the cash sites I have played on all have play money on them too.

Whether I have a cash account or not is completely moot.

I did mention that I have a cash account in the PM. Don't most cash account folks start out with play money anyway?

Why would you say that someone couldn't post about play money? Since it seems that is how most noobs start, this baffles me.

It just doesn't seem very friendly.

Search play money in the search bar, see how much you come up with not posted by you and then tell me your post was in the right place.

    K. They are all over the place. The question was about online poker rooms so I figured the best place to ask was the "Online Poker Rooms" forum. It was in the right forum. You just seem cranky.

I'm sorry you don't like the feedback.

Link 3 posts that are about "play money", not the ones that come back with the words play and money. Almost every thread on the forum is about play and money, but not one has the words beside each other.

And yes I am always grumpy, did you not see my title?

Don't mind jyms, he eats babies.

The thread wasn't primarily about play money. Forget about it. This is about feedback. You don't like it. We get it.

Also, I used "my forum" terminology once and was hit with, "This isn't your forum!"

When I use it, it's in the context that every subforum has one head moderator while all other moderators are free to help out as they please. When I say this is "my forum" it is to distinguish my authority and responsibility above all other mods, not my total ownership of that subforum.

edit, and I'll just add, play money play won't even teach you the basics of the game. It will teach you only the mechanics of clicking buttons. So when play money questions come up, they're essentially worthless and a head moderator may want his subforum to maintain a level of quality not met by your play money thread.

Also, I would add, the "my forum" also extends to our commitment to treat this forum (FTR) like it was our own, and the reason why we do this. We don't get paid to spend our time here doing moderation, we do it because we care about "our forum" and the direction it goes in.

I've never really played with "play money" via ring games. I've always been much more interested in tourneys. While at the beginning of a free tourney you clear out a lot of players quickly I think you can learn more than just clicking buttons. I've made it to the final via step qualifiers in multiple freeroll tourneys that have prizes of around 200-300k. I'm sure that's not a big deal for some but an average fish probably couldn't do it.

I like the ones that have a large pool. PP used to have 2-3k pool tourneys about every hour. I can't really find anything like that now.

IMO poker is not gambling at all. It's about taking calculated risks and in the end if you did it right you will win more than you lose. If I was loaded I might throw money around. But I only play if I can win and I like the freerolls and other deep tournaments to get better. I just don't have the $ to be tossing around as entries into 10 tourneys a week. If I start losing I drop back down to free to adjust my game and see where I might change things for the better. I don't want to have to make more than one deposit. Freerolls and other keep me busy.

I think you can learn nothing more than just clicking buttons. Let's discuss this on a forum designed for freerollers.

I disagree and agree. It's obviously gambling. If I have 23o and you have 22, I can still win all-in preflop. But at the same time, if you can endure the short-term and reach the long-term, your better gambles will pay off.

I think OP has a point. Any noobs should be given a nice cuddle, and one of the mods has to make him/her a cup of tea.

Hell, I like you, you can come over to my house and fuck my sister.
