A 3betting experiment
I've noticed that when there is one loose raiser and one caller, often times when someone else 3bets over them, they both tend to fold very often. So I've started to experimenting with this idea. here is what I've come up with. (Maybe this is called a squeeze, but I'm not sure. At any rate, I think its helpful for me to think it through.)
Situation:
HJ (22/18) Raises to $1.
CO (19/11) Calls 1$.
HERO has A9o and Raises to $4.
SB and BB fold.
I'm only thinking of the preflop consequences in this situation.
For HERO break even (slightly positive), he has to take this pot down 63% of the time.
When HERO wins = +2.35
When HERO loses = -4.00
Over 100 hands: (for the sake of percentages)
WIN: 2.35 x 63 wins = 148.05
LOSS: 4.00 x 37 loses = (-)148.00
......................................+0.05
I think if you target the correct opponents, this becomes fairly profitable with marginal hands. Now I haven't firgured out which villian to target yet, but I think I would consider the "Fold to 3bet" and "Fold to cbet%" all along side the Vpip/PFR. The bigger the PFR, the better.
And some foward thinking about the flop:
Once you've 3bet, you're repping a narrow and huge range, so most opponents will fold to even a whimpy cbet on most textures.
So what are your thoughts and criticisms?
