The thing is with that hand, the good players will fold ak aq aj and such, and the bad players who overvalue them when unpaired will usually only call. So if you eliminate those 3 hands you aren't left with much that you can beat besides 99, which is the only hand someone would realistically bet that you could beat.

Now that i've given you my 2 cents i probably would have done the exact same thing haha.
