    Default Bottom two pairs

    Ultimate Bet No-Limit Hold'em, $.25 BB (9 handed) converter

    CO ($25.30)
    Button ($11.20)
    SB ($4.15)
    Hero ($29.85)
    UTG ($30.30)
    UTG+1 ($24.65)
    MP1 ($43.95)
    MP2 ($26.65)
    MP3 ($12.10)

Preflop: Hero is BB with 8, 3.
    UTG calls $0.25, 1 fold, MP1 calls $0.25, MP2 calls $0.25, 2 folds, Button calls $0.25, 1 fold, Hero checks.

    Flop: ($1.35) 8, A, 3 (5 players)
Hero bets $1.35, UTG folds, MP1 folds, MP2 calls $1.35, Button calls $1.35.

    Turn: ($5.40) 2 (3 players)
Hero bets $5.4, MP2 folds, Button calls $5.40.

    River: ($16.20) 2 (2 players)
    Hero checks, Button checks.

    Final Pot: $16.20

Hero has 8c 3s (two pair, eights and threes).
Button has Ac 9s (two pair, aces and twos).
    Outcome: Button wins $16.20.

My question is: was it correct to check on the river? I assumed I was beat when the board paired, but I had a (small) chance of getting him to fold if I bet. Secondly, what if he had bet after I checked, should I have called? He only had about $4 left.

    Flop and turn OK?

He got lucky on the river, so you didn't make any mistakes as far as this hand goes. Don't worry about it.

Here's another hand. This guy had been playing real aggressively betting and raising with nothing when people showed weakness. Calling his check raise on the turn was dangerous but it worked out ok.

    Ultimate Bet No-Limit Hold'em, $.25 BB (7 handed) converter

    Hero ($10.65)
    CO ($4.85)
    Button ($27.45)
    SB ($3.65)
    BB ($18.70)
    UTG ($12.20)
    MP1 ($6.85)

    Preflop: Hero is MP2 with A, J.
2 folds, Hero raises to $0.7, 3 folds, BB calls $0.45.

    Flop: ($1.50) 6, A, 8 (2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets $1.5, BB calls $1.50.

    Turn: ($4.50) 3 (2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets $2.05, BB raises to $10.65, Hero calls $6.40 (All-In).

    River: ($23.60) 9 (2 players, 1 all-in)

    Final Pot: $23.60

BB has 2c 6c (one pair, sixes).
Hero has Ad Jh (one pair, aces).
Outcome: Hero wins $21.40. BB wins $2.20.

    comments on last hand:
    1. I usually raise more preflop ($1)
    2. I should have made sure I had near max buyin of chips before start of hand
    3. bet more on the turn (?)

Looks like a great read and play...Him tapping your stack seems awfully suspicious to not call him (refer to your read). Beautiful call.
Superb play sir...I always call 20% of my stack off with a gutshot draw. Excuse me while I race for my wallet.

Hand 1: You played it right. He wasn't going to fold his pair of aces. He wouldn't have folded after the board paired either. Sucks that it happened that way.

Hand 2: Looks good. In the average situation, I would raise bigger on the turn. Here, you've got a player that's clearly into over aggression and trying to steal the pot and/or capitalize on perceived weakness. In these situations it can in some ways be MORE aggressive to bet small or check - though you usually want a stronger hand than TP for that. The only thing that makes me wish you'd been more aggressive is the presence of a straight draw. Giving callable odds can hurt you in the long run.

Your turn bet induced a bluff. If you're willing to call a bluff, this sort of play can be used from time to time against aggro opponents.

Yes, I agree, my turn play was borderline with only TP.
Funny thing is, I got some abuse on the table chat after winning that hand: "dumb call", "idiot", etc
