Edit: SB had been very slow to get involved in any pots. I had pegged him as a very tight/passive player who would fold fairly readily.

What do you put him on that's calling all that way? He had been extremely uninvolved in most pots up to this point.

89 isn't likely, since as I said, he's a tight passive. I was more worried about JJ and 77 at this point, given that read. No reason to be in your opinion?

AJ, QQ, KK, AA is he's really tight. You don't think he would reraise with JJ?

I mean reraise the flop or the turn. And maybe bet out on the river.

If he's ultra-passive, who knows?

The action screams AJ or KJ or QQ or even, but unlikely, AA to me. Like previous posters, I think with a set or a straight, he would have check raised the turn. Many weak/tights also think TPTK is the nuts. I would bet as much as you think he would call on the river. As well as being weak/tight, have you seen him make any really tricky plays? The last check is Chanesque with the 89 or a higher set, because he has to know that you're solid and likely to check behind a lot of the time, but also that you are pot committed enough to call a substantial bet. I'm super-curious to hear the results.

bet the pot on the turn. just hope he has like aa/kk/qq or something. river is tricky, i think you're 50/50 here... if you had potted the turn i'd like a check behind a lot more.

Looks like AJ or you are really fizzuked here. The board looks s(ary at the 3nd, but he would have check raised alreaady with an 89 IMO, also the same thing with a set.

The board looks scary, but wth would he call your bet on the flop with? Probability is a ha|\|d like AJ or KJs. His subsequent checks to your flop checkraise look like weakness here, bet the river for information, you're prbly ahead or facing a humongo||) check raise.

If your set is busted and you didn't lose a lot of money, you probably misplayed your hand...

I knew my reasoning was good..

If this guy really is a tight player, what hand would he call a bet with that doesn't beat 66? He doesn't have AK, is AJ really calling here? Maybe KJ. Other than that if he calls you're beat.

OK... re read the 'weak' tight part, maybe he calls 1/3 PS bet with AJ QQ KK AA. Still I don't hate the check... I'm betting a lot more on the turn.

I did check. He did have AJ. Part of me felt I lost out on a large amount of profit here, and part of me felt (as drmc mentioned) that the only hands he'd call with on that river (aside from possibly KJ) had me beat.

The consensus I'm getting is that my biggest mistake was not potting the turn, with checking the river being a mistake as well, but not as much of one.

I'm confused...

Given my read, I was worried about what he'd have that would smooth call my raises AND would call another bet on the river.

A mistake I hope to avoid repeating (especially after having been properly chatised for it).
