i've been playing for 4 years, at several different limits, both above and below $50 NL...I bet it high b/c that particular player had chased two pots earlier. Both hands he chased without even close to pot odds and sucked out the river. I overbet in the hopes of shutting him down because the board showed flush and straight possibilities.

Other than overbetting the turn (which isn't a normal play for me, I only did it for this particular player, do you have any advice for me?

I'm more concerned about this hand rather than at what level I should be playing at. I'm bankrolled solid to play here.

hes making a mistake calling half the pot on the turn never mind two times the pot size if hes drawing at all.

Felting bottom 2 isn't always a good idea in unraised pots.
Work on your betting amounts, as miffed said half-2/3 on the turn would have been fine... no need to overbet here even against this type of villian.

you can easily deny him proper odds without betting over 2x the pot especially when there is only 1 card to come...id much rather bet 5 here and have him call with a draw than bet 16 and have him not call with a draw. betting so much here chases out the draw, which means less money for you, because you want people calling with draws with incorrect pot odds, and it gives your hand no value because the only thing calling you here probably beats you
