No. Based on preflop action you had no reason to think you were behind. You bet you TPGK aggressively, which turned out to be the whole problem with this hand. Opponent played it well and let you do all the betting.

Only thing wrong is try to avoid playing KJ to an early raise, even if it was a min raise.
Send lawyers, guns and money - the sh*t has hit the fan!

I wouldn't have called his preflop raise with K-J offsuit.

Just call on the flop and fold if he continues showing strength on the turn, since you can basically only beat a bluff by that point. K-J offsuit quickly becomes crap once an opponent shows strength before the flop.

    sounds good.

For what it's worth, he played the hand pretty poorly (if he made the assumption he was ahead), giving you two chances to hit a fiver outter for free.

It's annoying when a bad player's hand is completely unreadable because he has no clue how to play it.

Better players read backwards poker like a book. Passive players won't pay off your best hands enough if all you do is check + call with them until the river. Enough players are like this that sometimes shoving it in signals lukewarm strength or even weakness.

Gotta mix it up. Playing an aggro game helps because they're confused as to if you really have it or not. Mix in the weak bet traps, weak bet bluffs and over-bet traps. I only ever pure slow play guys who are capable of bluffing with big bets, but laydown to strength.

For what it's worth, this betting pattern is 99% a monster unless you think the guy doing it is an idiot, but even then it's probably still a monster. At this point anyone who isn't maddly in love with their hand puts you on at least 8x. Great one to study and laydown to.

I agree with Fnord. Raise on the turn as well to get more value out of a player with just a set, and also to disguise your hand. Just calling then suddenly raising on the river is an obvious slow-play.

I like making "standard" bets with monster hands to disguise the strength of my holdings.

Thats possible, but I did raise on the flop. I thought it looked like i had the king personally and not the 8's.

Kx will either go check/call or keep up the aggression.

When someone runs a funny line quite often it's a big hand.
