    Why no continuation bet?

Really ugly board for 88 and a good board for hands that play like that pre-flop. Plus it felt right at the time. I'm playing enough hands that I pick a few to just check/fold and this looked like a good spot to do that.

If I was certain it was the right play I wouldn't have posted it...

Surely with 12.5:1 pot odds here its worth taking another card and chasing the 8?

If a heart, T or 9 comes out you can be worried, but...

Don't understand the fold - are you thinking that even if you hit your set you are already beat?

I could hit an 8 and still lose as it puts a straight out and half the time it would put out a 3rd heart. I hated folding to a silly 1xBB bet and really hoped I could fold out to something with more meat on it, but I was done with the hand.

Fair enough. I either continuation bet or check fold like you did. Depends on how tight these guys are on the flop.

True about the heart but i don't get the straight...

    6 - 8 - - J - K -

straight draws become live... 9T / 79 for OESD and TQ/7T for gutshot... but they're not calling a $3 raise very often, are they?

But yeah, i know what you mean about the "there is no way i am putting more money in the pot" feeling here

Yeah, misread. I was already at fold when I checked and didn't see the 8 .

The results for this hand are pretty funny.

Why would having the 8 of hearts make such a big difference?

Gives any heart a flush re-draw. Puts me in a weird spot wanting to put it all in, but having lots of hands that beat me. If I'm gonna draw to a 2 outer, I want clean outs! lol

So you really didn't believe you had enough fold equity to get heavy? I mean it looks strange enough for you to check the flop, and these guys are playing scared. It seems you have a check raise option to rep a very powerful hand.

I really don't mind your choice, but when my opponents act that way, either they're trapping or I have a boat load of fold equity.
It's not what's inside that counts. Have you seen what's inside?
Internal organs. And they're getting uglier by the minute.

So here's the rub I have with continuation bets. If I bet every flop every time, even the most dim-witted opponents will pick up on it. It makes me a really easy check/raise bitch and makes it correct to play back at me a lot. Also, I know this so when they do play back at me I tend to give them less credit. Granted, they might be so horrible that none of this applies and I could just blast away...

Anyway, that leaves me picking some spots to check when I'm expected to bet. My last session (~300 hands) I went with this hand, the steal vs camper and an AKs hand with 2 broadways on the board and a backdoor flush (lots of outs, maybe best hand, can't call a c/r, textbook check behind.)

    For the results oriented:

    UTG had 66
    CO had JJ

They danced a little on the turn then stuck it all in on the river. That summer job working for Mrs Cleo saved me some money here...
