Your 8s may be good here. By check/calling the turn, you basically told him you didn't have a Q. Villain could very well have a Q but if he's a good player, he'll recognize this and use that river Q to his advantage. At least that's what I'd do if I was him. But I suck so... :P

and no way is he floating you considering his turn bet size. lol. this player doesnt even know what a float is.

Also, I don't mind check/calling the flop then leading the turn here depending on what opponent's PF calling range. At least you could attempt to take control of the pot this way. With a hand like 88, this may be a good situation to take this kind of line and you may even get him to fold the better hand.

why are we betting the turn? aren't we just value towning ourselves against Qx which makes up a great portion of his range?

and when he calls turn what is our play on the river if a draw doesn't come in?

I like it. We have to choose a precentage of our missed sets and just check them. Can't C-bet everytime.

As played call river. I bet more often than not he does not have a Q. Hell 2 of them are all ready out there.

In Moshmans book (and I know that is for tourneys not cash games) This kind of situation was mentioned I'm pretty sure (I will have to look for sure when I get off work) But I believe he said this is a spot he likes to check, reraise the flop. The situation being a pocket pair with 2 undercards and no Ace or King hitting on the flop.

Is that a possible line or is that really more of a S&G thing (or am I imagining that completely)?

small hand, small pot

I don't really see the merit of c/r here... But I don't really c/r as the pfr much anyway, unless I have a specific reason to, and that is very opponent dependent... But it's a fun move to think about... much like c/c, donk turn... people don't know what to do there because they don't expect a regular to have much of a range they could be doing that with.

I don't really like it with that hand though, because it's a fine value hand, and by c/r you create difficult spots where your hand might still have showdown value because it's kind of a monkey move and they won't give you much credit.
In some spots you can c/r marginal hands against some opponents to go to showdown more cheaply... but it's more of a limit poker move because bloating the pot doesn't limit your future decisions... and I don't really think it's good in this situation anyway.

yeah i hate c/r here. It doesn't really accomplish anything helpful, in a sng when the c/r size would be a shove it is great because we get them to bet and then we shove with a hand with decent equity (considering that there are draws in his range). However, with this much money behind it just puts us in a position to get owned and we're going to get looked up fairly lightly becuase a c/r looks a lot like a draw.

But I'd still rather c/r KQ, JQ < 100bb deep because you might get a hero call from 88-JJ

How do you play your AQ, 77 and 55 hands here? He bet small to get a cheap river card to a draw would be my guess. I fire two here at least. As you move up you will see that a Cbet means shit and many players are looking to see cheap showdowns or wait to "evaluate" as they have been told many times. C/C this turn is probably the worst play you could make because you would never do this with anything better.

Fire two and start getting value form draws, start C/C, C/F and C/R more rivers. These hands are much easier to play when you do.

no and if this is AFCs standard bet size oop it's no wonder he gets played back at a lot.

I"m willing to bet it is and he plays bigger hands different when they do float. Easy read if so.

lets assume that pot is $5 even then. what would be a good standard cbet size?

i would do what i usually do (60%ish) and go for $3

If I was to C-bet that flop and pot, which I would about 80% of the time, I would make it atleast $3.50. most likely between $3.5 and $3.9
I recently am liking less round numbers in my betting.

I'd go 3.5 when I'm playing, but upon further review I've determined that the best bet size is 3.8 (80% pot)
