no reads or stats on vil. Just joined the table. My line was way too passive.

As of late, im really not flopping sets or any big hands. So its made me realize how rare big hands are and when im not betting them, like i did here, im losing a ton of money that i need to be making to offset all the misses.

The reason you call the turn is so he can put you on a draw of some sort and pay off a river bet with Qx, instead of folding it to a turn raise. Then comes a river that almost never hits him and you don't follow through, why not?

Also open-fold preflop if you can't build a bigger pot postflop than this when you make a set.

Unless the tables passive I prefer folding or just limping baby pairs in th first few positions, you just hardly ever get a favourable flop and you often end up multiway oop with barely any showdown value. As for postflop played fine untill the river where you obviously need to bet for value, like $3.5-4 is good, or if hes a cs closer to pot, ez game.

Why did you raise UTG+1 with 44?

I ask because I usually limp with this in early position, am I doing something wrong?

Also, at least you won the hand. Its a big bad world out there.There were potential straights Flushes and runs out there, you only had trips.

I would have raised the turn and bet the river.

If you limp in EP and then bet/raise postflop you may as well be playing with your cards face up.

I haven't tried it nearly enough to have any significant stats at 50NL. I know I was limp/calling profitably at 25NL and below... I don't do it anymore because people aren't limping or stacking off lightly nearly as much.
But I think there is a benefit of people putting you on exactly what you have. At 50NL I'm not sure enough people are paying attention, but if you happen to know your opponents, I think you can limp/call and c/r on a bluff. I know I c-bet a limp/caller from EP 90% of the time, so if he would realize that, he'd c/r me on a bluff a fair amount and make moniez.

Folding pp's < 55 in EP is definitely the failsafe option. No need to get tricky, especially at the donk stakes.

yea folding is normally better than limping unless you are at a table full of idiots. as for this hand its played fine up until the river where a bet is mandatory

eh i've done the 'bluff a set' thing a lot in the past and if youre gonna do it, you have to follow through, because even though they suspect you have a set most players here will still flat with overpairs 'just in case' and fold to more aggression. Some even flat twice. So either don't do it at all or be prepared to go far with your bluff.

We make money off sets because people call.
