Stronger flop bet. Played well otherwise. On the turn, it's a fold, which you did.

    Eg! Raise the flop.

I don't like the turn. Safer to get out. But personally, push on the flop (I didn't check what your stack was, but atleast raise to 3.5 or 4).

so at the flop what is the assumption that the guy has which justifies his $1 bet ? i'm always weary of someone coming out with a reasonably strong bet (4xBB).

I can assume he doesnt have QQ, KK, or AA otherwise i would have been re-raised pre-flop - or how do you see that ?

If i raise the flop, say to $2 then if he folds I know I had the best hand, but if he re-raises me in that instance what should I think ?

Min-raises are for the weak. (Or the nuts) Raise to 3.5. THEN if he raises all in, you know you're beat. If he calls it depends on what kind of player he is.

ALSO NOTE: 1 dollar is not strong at all. He put 1.25 in preflop becuase of your raise. 1 dollar is a weak bet at the pot. 3 dollars is strong. His one dollar bet was just fishing around to see where he was.

What was your general feel about him? Did he overvalue top pair? What hands could he call with preflop that still beat you? What hands can you rule out?

Unless you're really really good, you're gonna have to play this hand like AA and play much more aggresively. Flop is 4xbb raise or all in... Calling is a no no.

how long have you guys beein playing no limit?

so i definitely have to raise in an instance like this, i guess i have difficulty judring what someone might have.. from what you're saying it's more important what's in the pot than the general size of the bet ? I just know i'd never bet 4xBB if i dont have that much... no matter what the pot ? So i'm completely wrong on this ?

NL bets are relative to the pot, not big blind.

I may push on the flop here, or at the very least a raise.

    Gotta love JJ hands, eh?

Definitely raise the flop. Make somebody who's fishing with 2 overcards throw their hand away (or pay too much to see the turn). If he calls/raises your raise, it's tricky descision time based on what range of hands you think he will play that strongly. Personally, if my raise gets re-raised here, it's usually but not always a muck.

Think about what you want to accomplish with JJ which is a vulnerable overpair. Your re-raise preflop was great and aggressive, it says "I got a hand don't mess w/ me." Then on the flop, which was perfect for your hand, you play like a puss. No flush draws but you are extreemly vulnerable to any overcards Q, K and A. You built a pot pre-flop so take it down on the flop with another aggressive bet/re-raise. If he plays back at you strongly, consider folding.
Send lawyers, guns and money - the sh*t has hit the fan!

pre-flop - raise 4-5xbb. JJ is great pre-flop but can easily become useless after the flop. Taking down a little pot is ok with me.

flop - you get an ideal flop, you have to push here. pot-sized raise is good.

turn - you let him hit an ace, good fold.
