How else could I have played this hand?
A few hands back, I lost a full stack to opponents unlikely rivered 5-high flush against my turned straight, shit got me steaming like a teapot

I don't have HUD, but it seems opponent has been playing a lot of hands

I play it the same but you have to fold this river.

pre-flop, flop and turn are all good but why are you calling this river dude?

I'm getting 2:1.
Unless he has precisely AQ, both turn and river are blanks.
Therefore, imo, its either a monster or a bluff.

Then I reasoned, my turn call gets opponent to think I'm afraid of the A. If I had a very good hand, I'd probably raise.
Hence, if villain's hand is hopeless (if he, for example, was executing a very elaborate call-bluff), the only way he'd win that pot is by betting big on the river.

He bet, and I actually almost instacalled it, expecting him to bet close to pot. Is my reasoning faulty?

Think I'm missing something. You are scared of the ace. And KQ, Q6, and any other Qx - these fit his play perfectly from what I've seen at this level. What exactly could be have that you're ahead of here? JTen hearts? underpair? How much real river bluffing do you see going on at the levels we are playing at?

Yes check behind on the flop what does betting achieve here? You fold that part of his range you were beating anyway. You don't need to protect your hand from the flush draw because you may well not have the best hand anyway. Once you check if he's aggro he may think he can push you out so then you call down. You kinda need a read though.

I really, really, interpreted this play as a call bluff, then push me out of the pot with a big bet. Opponent was playing a lot of hands, not showing down a lot though.


However, I did notice him playing any 2 sooooted

Well if you have a read that he'll c/c and fire 2 barrels on the turn and river then more power to you. If you just know he's loose it's somewhat dubious as you are basically guessing and hoping and you don't even have top pair. Check the flop, keep the pot small and see a cheaper showdown or fold to a large river bet.

AQ, QhJh, QhTh, and all Aces are easily in his range. I fold the river.
