Good laydown...Looks like he had something like KTh, I only say that because I can't imagine him sticking around w/ just a flush draw...other possibility is 57h, but I dont think its a bluff, he would have to know you have a good hand...highly doubt he's just banking on bluffing you w/ a Heart.

you shouldnt have raised preflop, and probably not of even called...dont try to steal blinds in ring games if thats what u were thinking. anyone who calls that raise and calls your flop bet is going to have you beat almost no matter what so you needed to seriously back off after the flop. and obviously the fold on the river was correct

I disagree, You are on the button, and your hand is ahead of any 2 random hands that the blinds could have. Limping here would be worse than calling, they could have anything and hit a very well disguised 2 pr, or a 53o for a straight. You could always fold, but in that position, why not raise and try to take $1.50...you just got unlucky and he happened to have a decent hand in the blinds.

well im a bit confused then.. all attacks on the blinds involve 2-3 people seeing a flop, and there are few hands in the game that outright have A9o beat in a 2-3 person affair. AK, AQ, AJ, AT, AA, KK, QQ, JJ, TT, 99 are the only things that would have that beat, and these hands dont tend to show up very often for the blinds. Often they call with things like QJ or QTs, or 66, where the position the A9 has (being on the button) often times gives you the advantage.

So I would thinking raising the blinds in this situation is ok.. what do you guys think of my argument?

because theres no point in risking more chips to win $1.50, you dont need chips to stay alive or win 1st place, its not a tournament, there are no gradually increasing blinds. stealing blinds in a ring game is stupid, period. you can only justify a raise here if its suited, or maybe if you had ATo, that way you can at least hit a straight w/ it and your kicker is better.

You aren't just hoping to steal the blinds, you're representing a range of hands which will allow you to take down the pot on the flop much easier. I do this consistently in late position with just about any two cards hoping to either take the pot preflop, or on the flop, and it usually works. Besides, what is wrong with stealing a small pot? I'd rather win $1.50 than nothing.

i used to do this a while back, and i looked at my stats and found it was not profitable for me personally, i heard several other people give the same advice so i changed, and so far its done me good
