If I knew this guy was a set miner, I could find a fold here
If I knew this guy was a tard, I could shove here
but he was completely new to the table so I don't know wtf to do

    SB ($50.25)
    UTG ($50)
    Hero (UTG+1) ($50.75)
    MP2 ($59.60)
    CO ($76.50)
    Button ($77.30)

    Preflop: Hero is UTG+1 with K, A
Hero raises to $1.75, 3 folds, SB calls $1.50, 1 fold

this scratches at the absolutely true answer but iopq can't know nor base his decisions off of this. So you should try to help him find the relatively correct answer!

Hi iopq, I've been playing 100 NL on FullTilt for a few months and this is one of the spots that used to give me trouble. I find that it's best to play conservatively and just call.

If he has a weaker ace he'll most likely slow down on the turn, because he'd expect a worse hand to have folded. If he has a set or two pair, a flush card on the turn can provide a good semi-bluff/bluff opportunity. If there isn't a scare card, he'll bet again and you can fold safely. Full Tilt players at these stakes are generally not good (or bad depending on your point of view) enough to bluff you like this. They are usually pretty tight and a check raise means a lot of strength (but not necessarily stronger than your AK). So, since he's an unknown I suggest that you call and proceed based on his turn action.

Also, though I don't think it's necessary to think this deeply at this level, there is the possibility that he has the same hand as you. I would be very surprised if a lot of 50 NL players on FT 3bet AK from the blinds. You might be able to get him to fold AK later in the hand but probably not on this flop.

secksy bet pot button, you have a mind of your own or just do whatever Full Tilt tells you to do?

I bet pot because I expect the flush draw to call almost any size so I'll be getting more value
Also, I'm getting more value out of an ace
I also expect people to fold other crap anyway because of the ace
if this was a rainbow flop I'd bet 9/10 pot and hope for an ace to call

so what do you do in hands where it's not obvious that worse hands can call?

iopq- are you trying to move up in the poker world or just play microstakes? this is relevant because you seem to not be thinking about Shania much when you play which is fine here but you seem like a guy who would like to be playing midstakes at some point.
My bankroll is the amount of money I would spend or lose before I got a job. It is calculated by adding my net worth to whatever I can borrow.

I think iopq is more of a Garth guy if you get my drift.

bet 3/4 pot because that's my standard cbet so I'm balancing my 3/4 pot range

most of the time we are either up against:
    set/2 pair
    air/weak ace
rarely ace high flush draw >>> only reason to be raising

If you combine the last two, I think the possibilities would add up to no greater than 50%
