    Default Operation GRIND 200NL

Ive decided that Im going to start an operation, mainly to keep track of my progress and keep me focused, but also to get feedback on hands and poker in general.

Quick Background- Ive been playing online poker for about 4 years and I have been playing seriously with poker as my only source of income for about 2 1/2 years or so. I went "pro" my last semester of college because it was paying better than my serving job. Poker allowed me more time to study for school since I could make the same amount of money in shorter time and on a flexible schedule.

Ive been at 100NL since I stopped working. I started 8 tabling and since then Ive kept adding tables. Today I mainly 16 table 100NL on Stars. Ive done decent but have had to pay monthly expenses and payback student loans/credit cards so I havent been able to move up limits. (I also was slacking and partying too much up until 6 months ago or so)

Ive decided that its time to get serious focus on growing my roll and moving up limits. I want be multi-tabling 1-2NL at a good winrate and then decide from there if I want to go to six-max or stay with full ring and move up.

Ive finally paid down a lot of school debt but unfortunately Im still going to have to make withdraws to pay for living expenses and a couple left over debts but I should be able to continue to grow my roll as I do this. I want to have $6000 and no cc debt before I start taking shots at 200NL. I will keep my progress updated and post any interesting hands that come up to look at.

I should be a 200NL reg by 3/1/08 at the latest!!!

good luck buddy... the supernova $$ @ 200nl is a really nice bonus.

Today I played ~4000 hands of 100nl and ended +$668

Obviously I ran very well and I felt I played pretty well also. This solid day is extra nice because Ive been breaking even for the last 4 or 5 sessions due to some sick beats and a tilty call or two.

Im about to clear a $1500 bonus as well but I will need to make a significant withdrawl in the coming week to pay off some billz.

I plan on putting in a decent amount of hands throughout the week so hopefully everything will still be on track after the cashout.

Played 5087 hands today for a total of -$441

Today was the exact opposite of yesterday. I got sucked out on in every big pot I played. I feel like I still played well though. As long as I continue to get in hands, I should be fine getting to 200NL by March.

I added a couple tables to the mix today also up to 18. Didnt seem like much of a difference from before so Ill probly keep it this way for a bit and try it out.

Here was a cool hand (cuz I won) against a TAGG reg who threebets a wide range against me...

    PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $1.00 BB (9 handed) Poker-Stars Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: FlopTurnRiver)

    Hero ($103.55)
    SB ($88.35)
    BB ($100)
    UTG ($11.70)
    UTG+1 ($48.15)
    MP1 ($101.85)
    MP2 ($178.50)
    MP3 ($83.85)
    CO ($39.30)

Preflop: Hero is Button with 9, T.
6 folds, Hero raises to $3, SB raises to $11, 1 fold, Hero calls $8.

    Flop: ($23) 5, J, 6 (2 players)
SB bets $15, Hero raises to $92.55, SB folds.

    Final Pot: $53

    Results in white below:
    No showdown. Hero wins $53.

Got in 2079 hands in today for a total of +$489

I ran VERY hot in my short session today. I feel like Im having some really swingy sessions lately. I think its just variance but Ive been in alot of big pots lately and Ive had some gross suckouts but today most everything held up.

I had a couple interesting hands today... Let me know what you guys think.

    Hand 1

    Villain is a 17/13/3.5 and his w@sd is 70%

There just isnt much I beat on the river and I really dont think hes betting out on this flop with a random 8 and then getting crazy with trips. He probly sees me as solid.

    River: ($61) J (2 players)
SB bets $75 (All-In), Hero folds.

    Final Pot: $61

    Hand 2

Villian is running 8/5/4 but I only have about 65 hands on him so far but I havent seen him get outa line at all. Pretty Standard laydown??

    Flop: ($31.50) , , (2 players)
    UTG bets $20, Hero folds.

    Final Pot: $31.5

    Hand 3

No read on villain. Im obviously not folding here.... but does anyone care about the difference between 5 bet shoving, or flat calling, shoving any non ace flop??

Hand 1: Raise preflop. I can see you loosing to only K8 or 84 here, so I'm making another raise on the turn.

Hand 2: If you put villain on AA, you should have folded preflop.

    Hand 3: Standard.

I think I instacall Hand 1... but that's probably spew on my part.
So you click their picture and then you get their money?
  11. #11
My god hand 1 and 2 tilt me so hard. Call 1 and push 2.
  12. #12
I really don't think I could get away from hand 1. The amount of times you would call and have someone show A8 or 78s or something similar would be worth it to call in the long run in my oppinion.

Hand 2 I call. Only hand that beats you is AA or a rare 10. Maybe it's a leak for me but I just can't lay down KK here.

Hand 3 I probably would have felted also.

Hand 1: I would call river. I don't think he has only KK, JJ or 88 here. He could be trying to push you off your hand, you have been quite passive.

Hand 2: I would shove on top of his bet. I cannot put him only on AA.

    Hand 3: Standard

Played about 6,200 hands today for a net of -$641

It sucks that I cant string together a couple of winning days. I know that I made a a couple of bad calls today but I think most of todays loss was just bad luck. Im going to post some of my biggest losses.

    Hand 2

In this hand villain is running 44/15/4, donkish. That weak turn bet on a drawy board is why I raised. I felt that I was ahead and pushed to protect my hand. Any better way I could have played this one??

I think that the check option is free. Epassporte charges $5 for every $100. Seems like if you are cashing out to your bank account and not to move the money between sites that using Epassporte is leaking money.

Its not that bad really. It was $2 for every $600 withdrawl but they recently bumped it up to $3. I dont mind paying a little to get my money much faster... for now anyway.

Had a good session tonight and the donks were out. Fiinished up $844 in about 6,000 hands. I usually dont play much on weekend nights but I probly should start. The games seemed way softer. Now I just need to not have a super gross session after this and Ill be good.

    Had a good session today

    +$453 in about 4200 hands.

Ran about 14/11/3.8 which is a little looser than normal. Got my steal percent up to about 30% as well. These seem to be optimal stats for me.
  22. #22
    Yesterdays update-

    -$300 in 4500 hands

No hands of real significance. Had a couple of my sets flushed out in big pots. Then KK lost to AA against the worst player at the table. Then I got overflushed in a raised pot against the worst player at another table. Still not bad results and I played pretty well.
  23. #23
up $161 in 3500 hands today....
  24. #24
I had a good couple days on thur. and fri. and made about $400 more in around 8000 hands.

I had an intersting session on fri. I started the session by running my KK into AA and losing a stack in the first 5 min. for like the third or fourth day in a row. This usually doesnt effect me but for some reason, it did. I went ahead and tilted off two stacks fairly quickly. Once I got all in BvB with AJ with a semi aggro guy and he flipped up AK and won. He raised in the SB, and I three bet him (which I would do with a fairly wide range) and he overbet shoved. Somehow I managed to talk myself into thinking he had a small pair at best, or possibly air, or even a hand I had dominated like KJ suited or something. Looking back, this was horrible, and Im way behind his pushing range.

That hand tilted me further when I picked up QQ in the SB.... folded to me and I raise, BB threebets me. He is pretty TAG and I kow that his range is fairly wide here too. I elect to flat call. Flop comes J33 and I make the bad deciscion of check raising here. Looking back that is horrible cuz Im not getting action unless Im beat. He shoves over and I snap call praying for AJ or a small pair. He shows KK. I should have just donk bet/folded to a raise but I was tilting.

Luckily after these three consecutive bad hands I went on a crazy heater and won back everything I was down plus $400 and change. Im still really bummed that I actually tilted because its been a while since I have lost it like that.

My winrate over the last 22,000 hands is only about 1.7 ptbb/100 which is alright considering Ive been 18 tabling but I know that I still make a lot of bad/spewy plays. I could easily be running 3+bb/100. Ive watched a couple videos since (including sauces new vid, which was very good) and read some posts and Im trying to get my game back on track.

Ill probly have a session tonight and Ill cut down tables to 8 or 10 and really try to think through some deciscions instead of autopiloting everything like Ive been doing lately. My goal is to get my winrate up over the next 20-30,000 hands or so. I want to be at 3+ which I know should be really easy to achieve just by cutting out some spewy plays that I regullarly make.

On another note, Im making good progress on getting to my BR goal. Im about to clear another $1500 bonus but I have to withdrawl that for more billz(which are almost paid off)

Played a bit tonight... just 6 tables and really thought through my hands. Also ran reall well and had hands hold up vs. sat. night donk calling stations. PT screenshot-

    Also played three $22 sit-n-gos for a 3rd, 2nd, and a 1st for a total of $118 profit. [img]

So total for the day is ~+$430[/img]

    Quick update

Had some decent days lately and then yesterday I had my best day in profits ever! I ended up +1450 in about 5000 hands. Obviously I was running well to say the least.

I also had to withdrawl $900 for personal use during this timespan.

It seems like there are many many more bad players on during the evening than during the day when I usually play. Its amazing what a difference it makes to just have one or two really bad players at your table.

Ill be putting in a decent session today as well and will update later.
  27. #27
Bankroll is at $4920 now. Kind of went on a gross run on the next two small sessions after my big one. Lotsa coolers all in a row... no biggie.

Im going to be putting in a lot of hands this week. At least 35,000 or so. Ill be posting some tough spots and updating throughout the week.

Good day today, got in 7500 hands for profit of $420 or so.

I feel like I played really well today for the most part. Ive been working on my game a lot lately and I think it is paying off. I feel like Im getting much better against other regs (Thanx ISF for his discussions and Sauce123 for the vid) Im playing hands differently than I have before and its for the right reasons.

Got in 6500 hands for +$550

I feel like I ran like shit today... I have no idea how I made any money. Two undersets and a KK<AA and a two outer all in huge pots during my session. Guess I just remember the losses more than the big pots I win.

Anway, still on track for 35,000 for the week.... and for moving up to 200NL by March 1st.
  30. #30
Haven't updated in a bit. Been busy moving and am now just settled into my new place.

Woke up this morning and saw that it was a double FPP day on Stars. I was going to put in a big session today anyway but now I think Im going to 20 table until I cant think anymore. I figure that just FPP's alone today will get me about $45/hour so even if I break even.... I still make some great money.

I put in about 4500 hands this morning but only finished up $50 which is great considering how bad I was running. Had a lot of coolers and some gross 3 outers blah blah blah....

Im planning on moving up to 200 nl full time next week so hopefully I can have some hands hold up this evening.

Ill update with my session and monthly totals tonight.
  31. #31
good to know you are going up to 200 NL next week. I played 200 nl on stars for more than half a year since 2007, made some profit and moved down to 100 NL recently. In my opinion, 200 NL is alittle bit tougher than 100nl, more nitty regular players than normal donks/fish. If you are good enough to exploit weakness of those 200 nl multitablers and know how to bluff in some certain spots, i believe that you will rock again. By the way, i really enjoy playing 100NL at the moment and have no intention of moving back soon :P
  32. #32
I played a little more than 10,000 hands today for a total profit of $545. I really ran bad today so Im actually pretty stoked on winning anything. I also got around 25,000 FPP which is worth about $375.... so all together a good day.

I played 77,171 hands this month for a total profit of

    $5279
    +
    $1500 bonus
    =
    $6779

Im now rolled for 200NL and Ill be switching over next week. I need a new Operation too.
  33. #33
I played a quick 1500 hand session at 200NL on Sat. evening. I ended up $160 or so. 200 seemed much more aggro than 100nl. I had a couple guys just three betting me, literally everytime I would raise from a steal position.

Its gonna take a little while till Im fully adjusted to the bets and the double size pots from what Im used to but Im looking forward to it.

My goal for this month is to play 100k hands... all 200 nl by the end of the month. Hopefully I will run at 2 ptbb/100 or better. That would be a great start to a new level.

I will try to post some hands and tough spots as I go.... especially spots where I might need advice adjusting to increased aggression.
  34. #34
    I played about 20,000 hands at 200 nl for a super weak 0.5 ptbb/100.
Im kinda bummed because I feel like I played shitty for the most part. I started off OK but it seems like I got into the habbit over over compensating to increased aggression. I felt like some of the tagg regs at that level were always trying to take the pot from me.

I went through pokertracker and I made some plays that I would never had made before. ie. getting all in pre with AK, QQ and usually running into AA.

I had some really sick bad beats in the beggining which I think kinda messed me up a bit and got me playing off my game. Heres a couple examples.

So after a few of these I kinda got on semi tilt and spewed a couple buy-ins in some spots. Ive got about 30 buyins for this level but Im going to drop back down to 100nl until Im at $8000 bankroll which is 40 buyins for 200nl. I started checking the cashier to see if I would have to move back down and thats not a good sign that Im playing my A game.

It shouldnt take me too long to get back though. I moved back down for about 5000 hands and dropped about 5 buyins at 100nl though. I was playing great the whole time and just got hit with some really bad variance. Basically running KK into AA twice and getting the money in with straights and having sets fill up. No need to post any of that shit up here. Im sure this downswing will end soon and Ill be back in no time.

Had a solid day yesterday to break out of my downswing. Things are looking much better.

I run soooo bad at 200nl. I made a couple lame plays after that and gave away some money. I somehow saved the session and only ended up down about $120. So Im going back to 100nl at least till the month is done. My bankroll is looking much better than before. Now I just need to not run like crap and Ill be set

Running bad sucks dude. The worst running of the bad for me took place in February, which resulted in my addiction to the Commune and avoidance of the important things in life (HH and strat). I'm convinced clicking on the Commune is -EV.

I'm glad to hear you are making adjustments back and forth and not jumping ship like a pussy such as myself.

Keep grinding man, it'll be worth it.

Had a decent month, mainly because I played lots of hands...

    +1500 bonus

I got a subscription to Stoxpoker today so hopefully studying will make a noticable difference in my game.

I still ended up positive at 200nl but ran horrible there. BR is $8000 plus but I have to see the tax man tommorow. Hopefully that doesnt do too much damage to my bankroll because I really want to move up, and stay up, at 200nl.
