    Default playing a set

I was at Commerce last night playing NL 100. I was at about $400. I get dealt 77 UTG+3. I call the $3BB. There are 5 players in all together. Flop comes j76 rainbow.

Check to me. I check. Button bets $10. SB raises to $25

I call. Button folds as does everyone else.

    Turn is a 10. SB bets $25.

He has $160 left. What do I do?

    At that point, probably fold...

But you should have just pushed him all-in on the flop after the raise and reraise.

    Why fold?

I agree that you push on the flop. But why does the T on the turn kill your hand?

The flop and turn action smell like AJ. I don't see where the problem is here.

    Yuuuup.

You call a bet and a raise cold on the flop and it looks like a silly draw with 89 but SB can't be sure. Button is sure that he doesn't want to stick around.

On the turn SB bets $25. That's a weak bet (What did he raise to on the flop). He wanted to see where he was and you've got to answer him. You could push here and win it or you could flat call again and look for some river action. I think pushing would probably be the best move but I can see the value of calling and value betting the river.

Default ok again just making sure

He had JJ. I just was wondering if it smelled like a set to anyone else. It didn't to me. It smelled like AJ or some crap 2 pair like 76 or something. Set versus set gets me every time. I just can't seem to smell it out. Here it really surprised me.

I edited in an explanation and you responded before I could finish.

Set over set is just a scenario where you're going to lose your chips. Unless you're a uber player.

    Default yeah I figured

I think the thing that really surprised me was no preflop raise with JJ. I mean it worked out because it set up his hand. It just seems like in the long run it hurts him way more than it helps him. Regardless of the preflop raise he probably still would have doubled up through me on this hand, but no preflop raise means 89 might have sneaked in and smacked him around. Interestingly enough, I could have had 89 for all he knew, but he didn't even think before calling my push on the turn

Without a preflop raise it smelled like AJ or J10. If the flop comes 7 high his strategy backfires though. You had to pay that one off.
