No reads. How do you deal with boards like this? I feel kinda weak in the knees when the flush and the straight hits. I put out a bet, but probably would have folded to a re-raise.

The check behind on the river was because I was worried about the check raise. Am I giving the average 50NL Empire player too much credit?

raise more on the flop, and i think checking behind on the river is smart.

yep; the river just shows the power of position. he's obviously not folding once he calls the turn bet. Checking behind is the best play there.

bair - what's your reasoning behind the increased flop bet? Is it the chance of the first person calling and second person having better (maybe proper) odds? Or do you just want to take down the pot right there? I overbet the pot by 1/3, thinking that would take odds down on all but the straight flush draw, but still keep loose drawers, TP, two pair in.

For what it's worth, I think you played it correctly. Assuming he is not an asshat, I have no idea what he could smooth call $10 on the turn that doesn't have your hand beat already.

Best case scenario, he had A-J, with the As and an offsuit Jack, and had TPTK with the nut flush draw....but that's an awfully stupid move on his part (although I have seen it done.) Second best case scenario, he had a straight that he was too scared to bet, but not too scared to call...(although your hand is still losing to this.)

I think 85% of the time, you're losing this hand.

So don't keep us in suspense...what did the villain have?

Eh, still not a bad play I think. His flop and turn calls were a bit shocking...but I don't think you can go around playing like your opponent is a complete moron (even though he obviously is).

Yeah, I assumed that I was beat by the river and he was just waiting to check-raise. His holdings surprised me.
