Default So when do I get to play like this and win?

this is what I'm griping about all the time. I wait for good cards, go easy unless the flop is good, and Never Chase bad odds.

MudRay and his ilk (full histories below) play like crap and take my money.
    synopsis:
These are 3 consecutive hands. I didn't personally lose much on these, but sitting at this table for 15 minutes I lost half my pitiful bankroll.

    1) PF bet with Qxs from middle position. Flopped a queen but none of his suit. bets and bets and gets another queen.
    2) PF bet from middle, this time with Q2 off. Flopped a queen and 3 to a flush. bets and bets and gets another queen.
    3) PF bet from early, with A8 suited. Flops nothing but is able to check through the end and win with an 8 on the river.

mudray is not a good player. You are right.

But on all 3 of these hands, you folded pre-flop. This doesn't tell us anything about how you play.

Why don't you post some histories of hands you played. Either won or lost big pots.
I don't know what they have to say
    It makes no difference anyway.
    Whatever it is...
    I'm against it.

    Thanks, humph.

Here's one from memory, but i'll post a real one next chance:

I get TT in mid/late, and put in a bet. I get one caller -- an early position player who's fairly annoying.

The flop contains 2 aces and a rag.

So I want to know if I'm in trouble or not. I put in a bet and get raised. Naturally, I fold. This guy has been playing ragged aces all day and it has paid off for him. Again.

    This is not always true.

Depending on the table, you can check from early position. If their bet is small, try a check raise. If their bet is too big, you can assume they are trying to buy something (in lower stakes too many people overbet for this to be true)

Good players know that people hold on to Ax too much. And lay their KK to scary boards with a lot of betting. Great players take advantage of that knowledge.

As Rippy as proved time and again. The scariest cards are the ones your opponent could have.

Sorry, I folded on this one but I wanted you to take a look:

clipat posts blind ($0.10), NuWere posts blind ($0.25), tl007 posts blind ($0.25), -sparky posts blind ($0.25).

    PRE-FLOP
ronjoe folds, bdaly calls $0.25, trever13 bets $0.50, tl007 calls $0.25, vikings7070 folds, -sparky folds, JaseNAmy folds, clipat calls $0.40, NuWere folds, bdaly calls $0.25.

I had A3 off, and $2 to my name.

Do you know how tempting this was? But I don't call with ragged aces early. 'Cause you're not supposed to.

    FLOP [board cards 6D,KH,5H ]
clipat checks, bdaly checks, trever13 bets $0.25, tl007 calls $0.25, clipat folds, bdaly folds.

    TURN [board cards 6D,KH,5H,7H ]
    trever13 bets $0.50, tl007 calls $0.50.

    RIVER [board cards 6D,KH,5H,7H,4D ]
    trever13 bets $0.50, tl007 bets $1, trever13 calls $0.25 and is all-in.

    SHOWDOWN
    tl007 shows [ JS,3C ]
    trever13 mucks cards [ JC,KC ]
    tl007 wins $0.25, tl007 wins $5.25.

That's right -- won by the early position bacjdoor-chasing ragged jack raise-caller. With his 3.

For funzies, you should know that I got ragged jacks on each of the next two hands.

Here's one that's a little better. I won it (actually split it) even though I probably shouldn't?

I call a PF raise with T7 of hearts. This is because there are two new player who post blinds, so the pot is artificially large. Plus I am actually close to zero as you can see when I go all in on a 50 cent bet.

Posting these histories is fun -- I've got another coming. Tell me if you get bothered.

Can anyone traslate any of these?

Hi, I'm Fnord. You might know me from one of my other 1900 posts. I play marginal cards, chase and sometimes play fast until given a reason to slow down. Oh, and I'm a long-term winning poker player.

Hey, Fnord. I respect what you're saying. In fact, when I went through Doyle's book the first time, I played more or less how you describe. And had my best overall results when I was doing it.

I'm presently in the dumps because when my bankroll gets low I shy away from that style. That's probably a mistake. I swear I'm just trying to find the holes in my game.

BTW I'm technically "winning" though not long term -- average +$75/mo. over the three months I've been playing.
