I think that's the kind of thinking I've been having lately that's led to much spewing....short stacks in the hand, not that much left after a raise and so getting the right odds to call their push, etc.

I think this hand was definatly worth checking the turn and seeing what the river brang before committing myself since I knew with the turn bet that I had to call if he pushed....other question there then is if making the raise equal to his stack is worth it with MP2 still to act after my raise.

I check the turn-- we'd have to fold if MP2 was the one raising or reraised UTG (or even if he just called UTG's raise, right?) and I'd rather take the free card to catch our 4 outer. I look for a cheap showdown here. Another A isn't going to call your turn bet with the flush hitting but they might call a blank river or bet weak on the river that you can call. If we check the turn, the flush probably just valuebets the river weak also. On the turn, I'm ready to dump this hand to a push. I'm expecting a made flush to check to us on the turn so I don't really see that check as weakness. The pot's getting there but not quite big enough for me to care enough to invest a lot more to win it.

And I'm in total agreement with you re: short stacks-- I think it is spew getting overly aggressive just because a short stack is in there passively calling your bets and you've got a decent middle strength hand.

I don't think overbetting a $1.75 pot to $9 is worth it with 3 others behind you to act, 2 of whom are close to 100BB deep. In this instance you'd have won the hand, but I'm not sure what I'd do if one of them just called. We can't think that we're ahead if they raise or even just call, can we?

Raise pre-flop to $2. As played, check behind turn, re-evaluate river, prob call reasonable bets.

And again, first shot at $50NL, not sure about river call, villan is 6.8/6.7 over around 50 hands.

I think the check on the turn was right play based on this thread previously, not sure about the river call though. My thinking was given his stats that something like JJ/TT/AK etc was very unlikely and the bet seemed to either be for value (and I guess if it wasn't for value he'd likely check behind).

I guess with his range, position and pot being unraised it does seem that a suited ace could be posibility but can anyone see a laydown here with 3:1 odds?

The more I think about this hand, the only hand I'm beating that would potentially be in his raneg would be KQ with one but given his stats I still think it's way too rare for him to have that as opposed to KQs to make this call profitable and a better play here would be c/f the river.
