Seemed ok till the Aces paired on the board leaving me wondering if this sneak had hit his PP and the aces made his boat.

Was my play ok in this hand? Or was this simply a case of someone hitting trips? Advice please.

Bet the turn. No fucking way I fold here, at these stakes he shows you a weaker Ace way too often. Fail that, you have outs vs the set.

Your action is missing after the all-in reraise, but...you FOLDED!? Trip aces top kicker to an all-in at a PENNY TABLE!? Good lord. It is MUCH more likely that he had an ace and a rag than a set for the boat. Don't out-think yourself. There's no way you can make a correct fold in this situation often enough for a fold to be +EV.

So Fnord I jus hit right back at him, I just assumed he had flat called all my raises so far, in my experience people have slowplayed me in this circumstances. Ok if you think so, this situation happens again I'll sick it to him.

Yes its a penny table, but im new and its within my bankroll. Im still learning. My read was he was slowplaying trips or had A7/6, which assuming his calling me was quite plausible.

I am unfamiliar with the term +EV also.

Let me clarify: At a penny table, people are playing all kinds of junk, most especially any ace. Sorry if it seemed like I was criticizing you for playing those stakes. There are plenty of good players on here that are currently or have in the past played at the micros on their way up.

In this situation, let's say that your opponents will play any ace and any pocket pair. I'm going to have to have someone else run the math on this for me, but basically it's this: based on the idea that your opponent will play the hand this way with 77, 66, and any ace, you are ahead much more often than you are behind just based on preflop card distribution. By second-guessing yourself, you are more often folding a winning hand than a losing hand, therefore reducing your EV.

This could all be worked out in more detail by those with the necessary math skills, unfortunately I don't have 'em.

Holy Crap man grow some balls and get your chips in the middle! If your not gonna push that hand then what are you gonna push?

I read the article and can see what you mean, it means that "you win more in the long run as long as you follow through" types of plays right?

So In this type of sceanrio I call regardless of the way my opponent has bet/called/raised? Just go for it as in the long run I will win in that position more than i'll lose. OK too easy.

As I pointed out I am still learning and each time im confronted with these new scenarios I don't like to simply act on impulse as I did when I first started on pokerstars 3 weeks ago.

I just got mixed up from what I read in my poker book about making trips with only 1 hole card and the read I had on my opponent.

If you make trips using only one hole card, your worst fear is that someone else has trips as well with a better kicker. Not an issue here.

Yes, the boat beats you. But playing scared will cost you more than losing in these situations, as you lose all the profit you could have made by folding, whereas by calling here you only lose if he has the hand, which (as discussed above) isn't the most likely situation.

im losing potential money by getting scared and worrying about what he 'might have' and forgetting what i've already 'got.'

Don't get us wrong, it's good to realize what your opponent could have, so as not to call when it's likely you are beat. You can destroy the .01/.02 levels without ever having to do that though. I'd mostly start learning to watch out for straight/flush draws and making sure you bet beyond their odds. Beyond that, you'll do fine here just playing your cards and assuming most of your opponents are a strange cross-breed of idiot+ATM (not because everyone at this level is, but because most who aren't learn quickly and more up, meaning that most who are at this level will become this to you).

I would have called in a heart beat. HE shouldnt have rags, as you raised preflop. Chances are he's a newbie who popped wood @ the site of his trips. You have trips top kicker, only thing to be scared of IS trips, but he would have RR the flop. I'd say call!

when i first started playing for money online, i was just the opposite, i never wanted to believe people had a better holding.
