Fold preflop, 99 shouldn't really be played into an 8xBB raise when also out of position.

Fold to the flop raise, TT has you dominated, and he probably has a higher pocket pair than this. You really had no business getting involved in this hand

interested to hear you say fold preflop - given the size of his stack wouldn't it be correct to call here based on the potential win if i catch a set. just that i'm sure i read that as long as the stack is ten times the raise it's a correct call?

I'm OK with the call, I would fold to the flop raise. Smells like maybe a draw but especially if it's the flush draw he may have over outs as well... and while it's a little bit of an over bet he may well make this play with AA KK figuring you have exactly the hand you do have.

I fold, I think the preflop call was fine.

I think he has a higher PP or like AKs.

Yikes - the problem with me and these stakes is that there are so many people who use these as a break from big stake tilt sessions that $25 means absolutely nothing to them.

It wasn't 8xBB it was 6... but even so, that's just a weird bet - smells like I have an ok hand that I don't totally mind going heads up with but also would be ok just taking the pot down with.

To me I guess it comes down to how much is $25 to you? I'm thinking you are about 50/50 here. He could have anything from the 8, a set, a flush draw, a higher pair, or just two overs.

See the flop, your implied odds are reasonable if you're willing to take some losses

He clearly has a higher PP. Fold.

You're in a race to suited overcards which clearly play the hand the same, decimated by an overpair which might play the hand this way and ahead of unsuited overs that may play the hand this way.

Add it all up and you've gotta fold.

ok, i appreciate all the responses. i made the initial bet on the flop as a feeler to try and find out if the pfr was a steal/overcards/overpair - i guess of all the responses i wasn't expecting that one. so i was sat there thinking about it pretty much until the timer ran out.

my thoughts were as follows:

- overpair or overcards - just couldn't see it being a steal with nothing at that point

- obviously if it's an overpair i'm royally screwed

- why would he bet an overpair like that? (the bet stank to me - it just screamed 'please fold') if it was an overpair i would have expected a re-raise but probably just doubling my bet?

- does he have a big overpair and is afraid of the flush draw? i didn't think my bet suggested that i was drawing - too big a bet.

admittedly i got lucky both in that it wasn't an overpair and also that he didn't catch a card on the turn or river. ironically - if he'd just re-raised me $6 (or called and then stuck in a bet on the turn) i almost certainly would have folded thinking he had the overpair. as it was the bet just felt wrong.

I would have a tough decision calling the big PF raise....depending on my read that would be the toughest decision in the hand....

I put out a 2/3 pot bet on the flop......and him coming over the top like that says to me, at least IMO....."He must have something...he will call my AI"

I would have to fold this, I doubt he raises that big with something like A8, just about the only hand you are beating right now....best case its a race...
