why do I always think like this ?

I am playing at a local casino in a 1/2 no limit game.

I limp in with 10/9 hearts in middle postion

6 players see the flop

flop comes 10 4 9 diamonds

I raise 10 dollars, SB re-raises me to 20 dollars.

I fold.

he says he had a high diamond overcard, good lay down ?

Why do I give people instant credit for the nut flush or even a flush draw ? everytime the flop comes suited, I always think the player I am in the hand with has a flush or the flush draw.

can I get over that feeling ? should I keep them honest and bet it down ? what are the odds of hitting the nut flush ?

Because you play scared. If you adjust to not seeing monsters under the bed all the time, you will improve.

With 6 people to the flop, Villian likely has at the MINIMUM a high flush draw here, or a lower made flush. Try to draw cheaply to a FH, but DON'T FOLD to a min-raise unless you are against the rock. Folding that is weak-sauce, and people will be running all over you...

I re-raise villain again & fold to a push using the motto "play 2pr FAAaAaasssT".

If it helps gahgah, the probability of flopping a flush is like .5%. A read helps here. If villain is fairly aggressive, I think putting him on top pair, or a K/A FD is more than fair here...

Do you have any idea of the math involved for calling that bet? I see no conversation of stack sizes, pot size nor hand ranges of villain. Also, what is your BR guidelines for live poker? Do you have any? You have some serious leaks.

Yes, I know I had about 16% to make my full house with 4 outs on either the turn and river.

villan had about 300 in chips, I had about 200 in chips... considering it was a limped pot, villan could have had anything (low flush, higher flush draw)

anyway, the reason I folded was because I put him on a high flush draw or even a made flush... which is why I am posting here, I always give people the benefit of the doubt when a flush is on the board. I have been cracked by flushes alot so I am paranoid of them.

I made the right read, so I feel I made the right choice.. he told me he had a high diamond. I think it is 67% I would win, but a coin flip if he paired the board or had some sort of straight draw as well.

Why do you think you made the right choice when you folded to a $10 bet in a now $40 pot when you were ahead AND had position? He's only gunna hit that flush 1/3rd of the time. 2/3rds of the time you can milk more out of him with a turn bet.

At the very least just see the turn & see what the SB does...

Instead of just assuming that they've always got the flush, especially on the flop, put them on the wider range that they're likely playing (live = wide range generally). If they've got the flush they'll probably 3-barrel & you can get away on more expensive streets, but the flop is not the place to lay this down to a minraise ...
