I can't play on PP because people call with ANYTHING and I ALWAYS lose. I can't play on Ub, nobody respects raises. I can't play anywhere for god's sake. N!$IB!@%'12v5125

What dont you get? He caught two pair on the flop? And slowplayed it. Bad luck on your part that you caught top pair top kicker and he caught two pair on the flop? You were relative screwed from the get go. But his check calling reaked of slow play. He probably shouldn't have called the preflop raise though. Read thru some of the "Does it ever end" thread to see some bad beats. Chin up people like those will eventually give their money back to you.

You're right about them giving money back, I know. I've just had a tought week of bad beats with solid play. I just don't see the logic in these call-machines. I don't see the point in calling a $1.50 bet with A8o...

This kinda thing happens though. The guy who put you all in had ok cards to see a flop, and when he caught the two pair on flop, he cashed in on the implied odds. Unless you know a player to bluff too much, quite often people won't come at you that hard unless they're sure they have you beat and they think you have a hand you can't lay down. Sometimes it isn't such a bad play to call with marginal hands when you're going heads up, because you know that if you catch something like 2 pair or trips, it's hard for your opponent to put you on that.

I don't mean to be disrespectful or anything but I wouldn't call the way you played that hand "solid." He had good enough cards to call your raise and then flopped two pair. You said you were tired of people not respecting raises but it seems to me that you didn't respect his raise. When he came over the top of you like that it just screems that he has a hand. You gotta up him on AQ or QQ or something big. I know you had top pair and top kicker but sometimes you just have to lay those hands down. He checked raised you and then went all in. You gotta think you are beat at that point. I know its hard to let good hands go but its something that must be learned to help protect your bankroll.

I wouldn't call a preflop raise with A8o, but that's besides the point. The reraise on the turn after a possible flush draw comes down does reek of a slow played monster. In theory, I'd lay my top pair down to that. In reality.....I've made the same mistake many, many, many times

It takes a few painful lessons to learn when top pair/top kicker ain't no good anymore.

That's what bad poker players think. "Well, he might have pocket queens, but if I hit TWO pair on the flop, I'm good!"

As far as I'm concerned, he thinks aces are instant win cards and is a call-machine. I don't care what you think, calling a preflop raise with A8o is a terrible mistake and costs you in the long run. I am just pissed that it happened to me the one time I got good cards all night.

Yeah, yeah, yeah... And as far as I'm concerned, you seem to think that AK is an instant win hand. As soon as he check raised you and you didn't put him all in, he figured the two pair were good. I'm not saying you should've known 100% you were beat, but the telltale signs were definitely there. All I'm trying to tell you is that you are going to have people calling you with cards you wouldn't call with, and they're going to beat you when they catch. Was he behind in the hand preflop? Yes. Would they have folded if they didn't catch? Most likely. Did you fold when he caught? No.

To put it simply: 1.75 isn't a whole lot to call preflop considering he could've laid down his hand immediately post flop if he missed. You, on the other hand, couldn't see the possibility you were beaten. You wanna knock out hands like A/8o preflop? bet $4. But you didn't want to chase them away -- you invited his call. Remember that.

I don't think you're a bad player -- but this is hardly something I would consider a bad beat. He was ahead in the hand from the flop onwards. Like everyone, I've also made this same mistake. But this is part of the game, and don't let it get to you. Tip your hat, take your loss, and move on. Nobody forced you to hit the call button and chances are, you'll get it back later.

Glad someone else went there before me. Yeah, you can't overplay your pair like that when the stacks are so deep. Got to look at when the money went in before you scream bad beat. In this case it was the turn + river. The calling 6x BB with A8 was pretty bad, but the tall stacks made post-flop play much more important.
