Default Point Me to the Snacks

    Hey FTR, what's up?

I'm a friend of a regular here, baudib, and I actually made an account primarily to play werewolves. But due to some life circumstances I can't count on being available too much for the game, so I have dropped out. Ouch, the irony indeed.

But - go figure - I play poker as well, so I'm excited to have joined FTR. I've lurked now and again, mostly in a few progress threads, but elsewhere as well. As for my poker background, I started playing poker on and off underage on Stars with no money and built rolls up to a couple hundred from nothing a number of times. I had no concept of BRM back in the day, so I was playing $2 HU SnG's with like $40 rolls, and $10 tournaments with like $100 rolls, etc.

I "quit" for a while (as in I got bored, found other more teenager-ish things to do), but started to come back to poker around the end of my sophomore year of college (March 2012). I've been playing semi-seriously ever since then, though I'd say my grind and study habits have fluctuated wildly during that time.

I played for quite a while on Carbon (got staked for 4nl as I was terrified of depositing b/c of Black Friday nonsense) and didn't really profit much - but I improved a lot. I started to play live when I turned 21 (September 2012) and got my ass pretty much handed to me. Combination of not being as good as I thought I was, running pretty shitty, and playing way too gii-happy at 1/2. Ended up transitioning back more to online play in the summer of 2013, with a $150 deposit on Bovada. I played with extremely aggro BRM, but BRM nonetheless. Over about 5 months I moved from 5nl/10nl to 25nl/50nl with some shots at 100nl. My BR peaked out at just about $3,000, and I started to get worried about bank considerations again.

I think that around that time a lot of the nonsense with Lock poker was going on, and in the meantime I had played there a bit, and lot 70% of my money (sold at 0.3). I was a bit skittish and while I was okay with losing $150, I knew the fact that I'd run it up to more would make it hurt more. I ended up withdrawing 1.3k, leaving myself a roll of 1.5k. Hit a bad downswing after that, and since at this point more of my roll was offline (after binking a small live MTT for 2k), I didn't move down aggressively. I ended up busting that roll, and focused on live casino and home games. I did quite well, making about 7k in 3 months at 1/2 games. I graduated from school in May of this year and over the summer took a trip to Foxwoods to play a few tourneys (0/4 in $250 tourney with multiple day 1's), and went to Vegas to play the Little Drop (survived about 7.5 hours, but didn't cash). On top of this I was getting hammered in cash games, and lost about 4k in poker, and 1.5k in trip expenses. Then I moved to Wisconsin for the job I'd been offered, and was spending money right and left, so I ended up "withdrawing" another 2k from my roll, leaving myself only about 3k left.

I've since deposited $175 back on Bovada, as I miss online poker, and the live scene here kind of sucks (a lot). Been swingy so far, but using aggro BRM since < 10% of my roll is online. Have increased it to $240 so far, but super insignificant sample so whatever. Hoping to surpass my past run on Bovada as an absolute minimum profit goal in the next few months.

Cheers to those who read this far. As usual for me, this post got lengthy before it got shorter. For those who didn't brave the waters, some cliffs.

    Cliffs:
    - I like poker
    - I dicked around
    - Then I took it seriously
    - Didn't make money
    - Then I did
    - Then I lost money again
    - Now I'm playing online again
    - ??????
    - I'ma profit

Oh. And I'm only here for the snacks.
