whenever i'm playing mtt's, i always feel the tendency to limp in with anything suited from Ax-Qx, and sometimes Jx, depending on any raises. probably seems like a stupid question, but would you guys recommend doing this, or try to kick this habit?

When blinds are low, you can limp with all sorts if you like. I don't like limping in with QXs and JXs, those are genuine trash, but certainly AXs and KXs is fine, but I think you really need to be in a decent position to do that, up to 3 off the button maximum I think.
What are u hoping to achieve by limping KXs? SHouldnt u be afraid of calling off ur stack wiht a non nut flush?
I tend to limp along with K-Q/J/Ts.
If the A hits the board ur good to go.
If they A doesnt hit, just let ur play depend on the actions made by others
fold them all. save your chips for other uses.
when you say Qx and Jx are rags, are you including stuff like QJ and J10...i guess what im asking is would you see it as poor play to limp in with those hands, and other suited connectors?Quote:

Whether or not to limp with suited connectors (to me, atleast) would depend on how many limpers before me, my position, and the likelyhood of a raise behind me. With these factors in your benefit, many suited connectors can definitely be worthwhile
I second that.Quote:

QT and J9 are "gapped" connectors. They are still techincally connectors but when the term "suited connector" is used it implies cards directly adjacent
so what kind of hands would you suggest playing in mtt's when its still kinda early, but you wanna build up your stack? i mean, yeah, it would be ideal to just play monsters such as AA and KK, but i dont think you can really win a tourney by grinding it out like that. what kind of ranges of hands do you guys suggest?
Those would be suited gappers. Because you have a significantly lower chance of making your straight, these are not nearly worth as much.
edit: Wow this post was late, lol, like 10 minutes late. :x
I have very little MTT experience, but early in MTTs I'm looking to not get involved with many hands and just let people knock themselfs out. Grinding it out waiting for a preflop monster certainly will not win you a tournament, but when the blinds are so small, I believe folding several orbits in a row looking for a big hand to double up on is perfectly fine. I would play hands slightly better than hands I normally play, however definitely be ready to let go of something if you don't hit or hit weak, don't get involved early.
oh definitely, early in the mtt i think that it is definitely worth it to wait for monsters, especially with all the other ppl all-in'ing it do death. once you get past that, like an hour into the tourney or so....from what i've seen...is when i think i should start tryin to make a stack for myself. im trying not to play anything absurd, but i still wanna make sure i can take advantage of every opportunity that i can find. but at this point, im not quite sure what will maximize that, lol.
ooo, does this one mean im off of my high card rating?
sweeeeeeeeeeet. ok, no more pointless posts
I love limping w/ Suited Connectors or gappers BUT only in late position w/ +EV. On the button with five limpers, I am loving my 3/5s :D
I will limp in with Ax-Qx suited with position, usually when the blinds are still low. If you hit you probably will win the pot. If you miss it's an easy fold. Just remember why you are playing the hand. If you pair the board with your A-Q do not play the hand. You were playing the hand for the flush so play it for the flush.
