I really started to suspect a FH on the end but couldnt fold it with 4 to the flush - plus im never folding a flopped FH

For the first hand i could see an arguement for not slowplaying, but i definately don't think that slowplaying it was a bad play. And once the turn card hit you would've been doing something wrong if you didn't lose all your money there, so don't worry about that.

Now that I look back, I really question losing my whole stack there. His bet on the end was dying for a raise, and him reraising me so much looked like a FH. What are the chances that he was playing a flush that hard?

Agreed - flat call his raise. It's pretty horrific bad luck that he hit his two outer on you, but it happens. When he starts showing serious strength, throttle back with a call.

To put it in general terms, re-raising on the river with anything but the stone cold nuts is very dangerous. I only do it if I know my opponent so well that I am dead certain they don't have the better hand.

In the second hand, why did you smooth call his raise on the flop? Seems like a nice pot-sized reraise is in order to get him to put more money in on that near perfect flop for you. He will possibly go broke if he has AQ-AT, definitely if he has AK or A5. Were you trying to trap him or scared of the set of 5s possibility? If you were setting him up then it worked well enough, though as it turns out you could have gotten his money in the pot on the flop dead to a 5.

I don't know why I didn't raise it on the flop, I was pretty sure he was on the ace and I was planning on dropping the hammer on the turn and just hoping he didnt spike his bigger kicker. When the turn came the hand played itself.


On the first hand I was just trying to extract some more money from him - if I would have played it too hard he would have folded his eights and I wouldve been out of a pot (so I thought). Unfortunately it didn't work out that time. I'm not much of a slowplayer but I thought it would be good to slowplay the flopped full - oops.

On the first hand, I would say to flat call his raise on the end, but I am sure that is just because I saw the hand history. I think I would have put him on the nut or near nut flush and done the same thing you did. After all, that is why you checked the turn, to let him complete the flush. The only hand that he could reasonably have to beat you is 33 or 88 (JJ would do it do, but is not likely he would have limped.)

I agree with dale, since his last raise was large enough to make something on the hand if you are best, just flat call it.
