props to xianti, the new skin is really cool. Very stylish, yet at the same time not over the top, no distracting colors, and its not a pain on the eyes after 20 minutes like a lot of other 'cool' designs.

Thanks, boost!
This was long overdue. We're thrilled to be finally rolling out our fresh, new design.
Hey everyone, come on over to MY thread on the new look.
Its better than this junky one.
Wow! Really beautiful! Gw!
Very nice!
ooohh ahhhhh
outstanding job Xianti!!!!! Came as quite a surprise at first though. (I thought I got the wrong page).
My avatar is perfect for this theme her skin and the walls match perfectly.
Good choice.

It looks excellent. Was long needed, and it's absolutely awesome.
I prefer the old design. Don't get me wrong, the new one looks alot better and flashier, but I liked the cleaness of the old skin. Is it possible that you can add the old subsilver skin aswell so we can choose whichever we prefer?
No. Live with it.Quote:

I'd kill to have the old skin and also the ability to change font size with my browser. The latter can easily be fized by using EMs in the CSS rather than other units.
Overall, I'd say it's pretty ugly and the useability went right out the window for the sake of "looks".
Please don't take it the wrong way, but there is a reason why useability is the way it is, and many rules are broken now and it's definately taking away from the wonderful content that you have here. :(
Please consider common web useability standards.. they are always a great rule to follow..
woooo
The font size can also be changed by getting a real browser. But switching to ems is something every website should do for at least their font sizing.Quote:

I like the new look overall, but it does leave usability behind in some areas. And tables? Really? Eww.
Also, why are there REAMS of inline css?
And... this is a poker forum, not a web design forum. Sorry.
What are web usability standards - and how are they different now? Were we following them before? What's wrong with tables? I prefer the No Limit ones, but why are they bad?
LOL.. I hope Xianti knows what you guys are talking about...
i'm still used to the old look... maybe i'll warm up to 2.0 in time...
Yeah Times New Roman is horrible on the eyes when tryign to read posts. I don't mind the colors but change the font.
yes i use firefox.
Yeah, but pizzaman's avatar goes great with any damn thing. My God, pizzaman...Quote:

I think if you just went back to the original font names (arial, verdana, sans-serif) it would be awesome.
Hey - Either way, this is the BEST site like this out there - HANDS DOWN. The content is something that you can't easily acquire and this place will always be the best, regardless of how it looks.
But, I think you'll find that there are a lot of nice themes with sweet fonts and pleasant colors that can be easily branded..
I talked to Xianti about this and it is an issue because of our mods. In other words, if we were to keep subsilver around then every time we do a new mod or upgrade to a new version of phpBB then we'd have to do double the work with overall_header.tpl etc in each skin.Quote:

Usability is a big topic in web design and can't be summed up in a post. Basically there are guidelines to follow that accomedate a wide range of viewers with different browsers, vision requirements, etc. One of which is that sans-serif fonts are the way to go for the body of your text online. On paper, serifs (the little bits that stick out of the bottom of the letter l or the sides of x, for example) help to guide the eye across the page. IIRC on a computer screen it works differently because of the fact that you can't have a perfect outline of a letter, just pixel-based interpolation of smooth lines, at which most browsers/operating systems fail at doing a good job. In my experience, this only applies to smaller font sizes, but these font sizes are the ones in which most web pages are laid out.
Regarding tables: they're just a bit of an old-fashioned way of laying out a website. In the beginnning, tables were intended only for displaying tabular data (charts with numbers, etc). But they allowed for the most sophisticated layouts, because HTML didn't have any other proper structures to do complex graphical pages. Now we have CSS to style our pages, which results in cleaner and easier to maintain code, and lessened file sizes. Most of my pages with CSS layouts are around 6k with content vs. ~35k with a table layout. Sometimes, a layout isn't practical to do in CSS due to browser inconsistencies across platforms, so tables need to be resorted to. I never use them unless I absolutely have to. PHPBB probably spits out tables by default, so this isn't something that can be changed.
And all of this is one big rant on an issue that sometimes bears little practical effect... if you were into web design and the community during the past few years, you'd probably have a strong opinion one way or the other, though.
:D I like the new style. It´s very nice!
Love the new look. It really has an "Old-West Outlaw" feel to it.
Great job!

Is it just me or does the forum not redirect you back to the thread when you submit a post like it used to?
It is not just you. We're talking about this issue in the http://www.flopturnriver.com/phpBB2/...ic.php?t=15135 thread.Quote:

Absolutely love the new look. Looks much more high class, and now the "look" lives up to the "content". The front page is awesome, and I love the new "recent posts" section. Awesome work guys, FTR is the shizznit.
Ah. Sorry. Missed that thread.Quote:

Xianti has experimented with a bigger font but it seems to break the tables in the forum. We're still looking at various options.
I dont mind a small font. Try verdana hat is nice looking small. The times new roman serif font is horrible.
I agree. Times New Roman is terrible for the screen. But if you're seeing that, it's because you don't have Georgia (another serif font, but much more legible). Georgia is the first one in my font list.Quote:
