They put you on AK and the nut flush in hands 1 and 2.... WTF!? That guy in the first hand let you off cheaply -- I'm sure you would've called another 5 or so. After hands like these, I'd just say thanks. Maybe they are think you'd fold to any bet so why even bother. I just cannot understand the logic.... Did they play very, very tight/passive in other hands? Did they only bet when they were weak, and check/call when strong? I've seen my share of showdowns like this, and I think it might be a pattern/particular style of player. Thoughts?

Some players won't bet on the river unless they have the nuts figuring the only callers will have them beat. In the first case he was beat by AK and in the second by the nut flush or a full.

Perhaps he had a read on you that you would check-raise the river holding the nuts.

I think he took this approach too far with the first hand. A small value bet there would be +EV.

Not so sure about the second hand.

Hand 1: I wouldn't expect AK played by an aggressive player to be limped this way more than 1/10 times.

Hand 2: Is OP really going to check the nuts or 2nd nuts after he's shown his opponent is willing to call down some large bets on the flop and turn? Also, if he had a boat, he would almost certainly love the club on the river because it would mean he could take a large portion of villain's stack on a very probably second best hand. I suppose seeing many, many checkraises in similar positions from Smackin might slow villain up, but I think the chances of a boat playing this way are almost nothing.

In both hands I think not value betting the river in position when checked to is a huge mistake unless you would fold either hand to a big checkraise -- and that's just scared poker. There are plenty of second-best hands possible in both who will call a reasonable bet on the river, and very few opponents who are going to take the huge risk of you checking behind -- especially when you (villain) were completely passive in both hand -- to checkraise with a stronger hand.

The guy was just a total fucktard. He called down A high. I think it was some little boy who found his daddy's poker account. I rarely checkraise, especially on the river, so he had no reads like that. Besides, who checkraises the river when its heads up in 100NL? Nobody I've ever seen.
