Hello, FTR n00b here - have a HH that needs critiquing

I was dealt rockets, is there any way i could have played this better? (get more money out of it) The flop was dirty, should i have bet a lil less to get him to call? He was 1st to raise so he prob had over pockets, AK, AQ, etc

Nothing wrong with how you played the hand. One pair is usually not the kind of hand which you can effectively "milk" opponents with. Just lead out and hope he calls with a dominated hand or folds.

Your opponent likely had high cards and more then likely you weren't going to get anything more out of him. A pre-flop reraise from the blinds usually means high pocket pair, which is probably what your opponent put you on. There is also a legitimate straight draw on the board against an opponent who has position on you, so you definately want to give him bad odds to call if that is what he is on. IMO well played.

I disagree. Your question is how can you make more money out of this? Well, assuming you are sure that you are ahead this hand without fear of him sucking out, (IE you don't think he has a lower PP) you can go ahead and make a bet that forces him to call, this is however, only if you do realize you run the risk of being drawn out on. Make 2 dollar bet or even 1.5 that he really just has to call because of the pot size. You can do this on the flop, turn, and fire out something like 5 on the river, assuming he hasn't drawn out.

If you bet $2 into the $8 pot on the flop, you are giving your opponent 5:1 odds to call. AA looks nice on that flop, but the hand is far from invincible. No disrespect to you H Dogg, but I think this is horrible advice. :(

There's no reason to bet the entire pot on this flop or really ever for that matter IMO. It's all rainbow with 2 connecting cards, I probably bet about $4-$5 into the $8 pot, to build the pot and encourage him to call/raise me if he believes im bluffing. Remember to always bet an amount that doesn't give him the right odds, but entices him to call anyways, hence causing him to make a mistake which in turn makes you $$$.

Your play is fine here, it's just much more of a less risk strategy.

I would consider trying a weak lead on the flop here, firing out about $2. This can make your opponent think that you have missed the flop and are trying to buy it, and they may raise you with nothing. I like to take this slightly higher risk play here, as you have the best hand a lot of the time (+90%).
