Good River Push?

I read the villian as a loose-passive player who likes to see flops. I was trying to play a LAG style because most of the players were playign tight because of the big stack.

Hero calls $0.50, 1 fold, Button =#A500AF(Villian)/ raises to $1, SB calls $0.75, 1 fold, Hero calls $0.50.

Flop: ($3.50) 8:club:, 7:spade:, 4:diamond: (3 players)
SB checks, Hero bets $2.5, Villian calls $2.50, SB folds.

Turn: ($8.50) 8:diamond: (2 players)
Hero bets $4, Villian calls $4.

River: ($16.50) T:spade: (2 players)
Hero bets $48.3 (All-In), Villian calls $48.30.

Final Pot: $113.10

Why are you doubting whether it was a good push?

The only thing that has you beat here are quads or a FH. You can't play like you OPP has quads. The only other thing that beats you is 8-7, 8-4, or 8-10.

By going AI on the river, you are doing so with the near nuts, and might provoke a sheriff response in lesser players. That is read dependent of course, but there are some players who would rather call an all-in then a hefty bet, because they believe the AI is a steal attempt....and their sheriff response kicks in. (I notice this is especially prevalent in big stacks).

Then again, if your opp is not the type to call unless he has you beat....then it was a bad push.

Again, like I said, the AI is read dependent, but certainly not a terrible move against the right player IMHO.

Woulda done the same. Good push irregardless of the outcome. (Though personally, I wouldn't have even been in the hand OOP)

On the turn call I assumed he had the 8. I put him on a read of 8-a because he plays weak aces. The reason I'm doubting the push is because I lost to quad 8s. This just planted a little seed of doubt in my head about my play. I've been trying to learn a more LAG style of play and I wanted to see if other players would have done the same in this particular hand.

He can also call you with 77, 44, TT.
You move into a pot of $13 or so for $43? Only hand to call you and lose is a "bare" 8. Value bet it for $10 or so, fold to a push.

What did he have?

If he calls the turn bet he probably picked up trip 8s so you are good for a push on the river.
