Time to pay up?

I think this play was weak.
1) I didnt raise preflop with a decent hand in position.
2)I offered the guy more respect than i probably should have. I'd taken a buy in off him when he treid to bluff my weak hand all in. Therefore should i have called. Afterwards he seem to insinuate he had the set of jacks (therefore he would have paid off the flush anyway and i reckon my kicker would have won the pot) Could i have reraised him reping a flush? and folded to any reraise (i guess smolhmann had an oesd)
