Probably best to let this one go. He played it like he was drawing and bet it big when he hit. Calling an AI with a very deep stack when its either lose/split is generally a bad idea. Its hard, I know, and its something I'm still struggling with myself. Gotta learn to let these ones go and think about how the villain played the hand before thinking about calling. If your stack were smaller by the time the river came I would autocall, say <$50 or so.

This is just like an example I read in someone's book. The example in that book was if you have a one card straight (say you're holding the A and the board reads TJQK on the turn) and your opponent acts like he also has the straight, you can hesitate, call, then push if the board pairs on the river.
Your opponent sure put you in a shittyass spot and he played it pretty good on the river. His chasing was pretty suspect because its doubtful he's getting the implied odds of you paying him off every time. This is definitely a pot for you to pass on. Don't call allins when you have no chance of winning the other guy's stack unless you have to. Especially don't call allins with deep stacks when you have no chance to win his stack. I'm kicking my dog and folding.

i probably fold but i definitely make a note of it. it was a good play no matter what the result was. if he tries to do that one too many times then i'll start making calls in a spot like that, or even pushing preventatively on the turn. if he calls there and hits the river for a flush, well, you want to be playing against him as often as possible.

One of the biggest money losers is when you think someone is making a move on you, but they're really not. A lot of times people aren't observant enough to notice the person raising doesn't even make moves. Unless I am certain a person has made moves previous, I don't go deep with them when the board beats me. For you to even split this pot, your opponent has to be making a move on you. Was this opponent capable of making a move?
