A few hands it would be great with some comments on

I feel that I'm not playing good enough after the flop, not quite sure how much to bet in different situations,
here are some examples when I've lost when I thought I had good hands. Would really appriciate some comments on
these hands.

Happens now and then this, I get a pair on the flop and have an A,
I'm not on any flush draw or anything, but shouldn't I still bet when
I have highest pair and good kicker? How would you play?

Isn't it strange to call a 5BB raise pre-flop with pocket 44?
I was really surprised seeing that's what he had.

Hand 1 - No doubt you bet the hand with high pair and Top Kicker (atleast after that flop with no possibility of flush and a tough straight). However your mistake on this hand (imo) is the bet on the turn & River. You're giving this guy extemely good odds for his money, he has no choice but to call your weak bets. If you were to bet 3/4 or Pot on the turn, dueled with your preflop raise, he'd be thinking if his 9's were good. I'm guessing you hesitated a bit due to the 3's pairing on the board. Don't be afraid in this situation to take a stab, if he comes over the top then you have to think he has you beat.

Hand 2 - I like you're play on Hand 2. Nice bet on the flop and also a good read on a possible straight. A lot of times 4x the blind will eliminate a marginal hand like QJ but at this level people will play almost anything for a $1. I might have called with K's and saw what came on the Turn (you did have a gut shot straight + overpair) but overall not a bad fold.

Hand 3 - I'd just recommend being a bit more aggressive with this hand. You do have a beatable hand in AJ but use your bets to extract some information. I would have checkraised your opponnent on the Turn or came out firing with a $3/$4 bet. If you were on a Flush draw would you pay $3/$4 on a$3 pot? I think a study in Pot Odds would be very beneficial to your game.

Hand 4 - At this level NO I'm not surprised about the call. A lot of people will call this type of bet with a low pair just to see the flop.

My number 1 observation is your betting pattern...good players would have you down quick. Don't be scared to take stabs at the pot with Top Pair (on the turn and river). But when taking stabs, don't give your opponnent good odds by making a weak stab.

Hand 1) The only hand that calls a bet on a flop that is unconnected and unflushed is the one that beats you. Other than that, you SHOULD have bet harder...but I don't think he would have folded his overpair.

Hand 2) Probably a good fold, but I'd reraise here for info, a minbet is pretty fish. I'd suspect something like AJ (for TPTK) or JQ (for TP + straight draw)

Hand 3) Your check shows you're scared of the 3rd spade, I'd bet here too regardless of my hand to try to take the pot. Fire a bet here, if you get reraised, you fold, if he calls...you get to see and lose the smallest amount possible, if he folds, you win.

Hand 4) I call 3-6bb raises all day with any PP, knowing that people will pay me off greatly at these limits when I finally hit. You should be making the same move. I'd much rather limp, but (I play 6max btw) I'm not folding my PP to just a standard raise

:idea: The following is simply what I would do in the situation, not exactly what is "right" or "best" but what fits my style accordingly.

Hand 1:
Preflop - Maybe mix in some raises here to cut limpers.
Flop - Good play on the flop
Turn - Check raise! Bluff trips or a boat + gets info.
River - If he called your trip bluff on the turn, now its time to be wary, you have 3 options, Bet small and see what happens, Check and maybe he'll wonder about another check-raise, or bet big hoping to scare him off. I would probably go with the second check-raise option, which would give you the most information on his hand.

Hand 2:
Preflop - You want to get a pretty big bet here to cut out ANY mediocre hands since more than likely you hold the strongest hand at this point.
Flop - Ah, the flop. If that is the bet you felt comfortable with --- Good job; When he raised only 2x I would have taken it as a joke, and A) Re-Raised to get more info or B) Pushed. There is no call here.
Just don't be greedy with this hand. It isn't invincible, a preflop takedown is still a win. A lot of people think of big hands as big money, when in all reality it is the less marketable hands you will hit the jackpot with.

For hands 3 and 4, edudlive has that pretty much summed up. So I leave you with my overall analysis.

Your flop play is great for the most part. Work on not playing scared and not being greedy, for those two things will lose you a lot of money in the long run. Maybe drop down to cheaper tables to refine your skills before spending too much money on poker schooling.

Thanks for many good tips, and overall I agree that I'm playing a bit too scared to reduce losses, not betting enough for info and to get the other to fold and so on, got to improve in that area.

For hand 2, I would definately raise a lot more than 4BB. At these limits I see a lot of people calling with KQ,QJ,TJ or PP (I also will call with PP up to 5BB because I will get paid big time if I hit). Throw out at least a $2 bet IMO.

You're riding a thing edge IMO by raising more than 5xBB in ring. You're rarely going to get callers for more than a raise to $1.25 (heck my $1 raise rarely gets more than 2 callers in 6max) (this is Stars though, on Party it'll be MUCH different and your advice would be true)

You simply have to bet more in all areas at this level. And for god sakes, if you put someone on a draw that doesn't hit the turn, drop the fucking hammer. Teach the chaser a lesson.
