i dont see why mixing your play up like this doesnt or shouldnt work.
Oddly ive just had this at a table i played at but opp had AQ and two pair where as i had a set and he paid me.
Personally i think its good to mix it up

Its ok. sometimes i dont feel like raising pf with aq here either but i dont like the river reraise.

I don't like the river reraise either. The queen is a great card but it does put a straight on the board. Even though it's foolish to draw to an inside straight I see it all the time. Just call his reraise and hope your hand is good.
