Strange strategy (?)

This situation has come up a number of times...
I raise 4xBB with for example AKs out of position, i get one caller and the flop comes 2, 9, 5 rainbow and i fire out a bet of roughly 65-75% of the pot, the other player calls again and the turn comes something like a 10 i slow down and check, the other player bets the pot and i fold...

After this happened a number of times i tried calling down a couple of players that did this and it turned out they had really strong hands like 2 pair a set or an overpair... What is the meaning of this strategy 95% of the time they dont get a call, dont they want the other players to call?
If not is it a play to enable them to bluff alot later?
If so arent they taking unecessary risks with their money?

Being out of position sucks. What you have to do is get a general read on the player you're in the pot with. Does he never fold small pocket pairs to flop bets? If so, does he fold them to a turn bet? Some players refuse to believe you no matter what, so you keep raising preflop but only cont. bet them when you hit. You value bet them and let them slowly pay you off with a bunch of small to medium sized pots they wouldn't give up. If you're in the pot with someone who always folds, then bet every time. Also wonder: Could they be on a draw? Do they have a legitimate hand?

Its not as hard as it might sound. You just need to pay attention and get a general feel for the table and the players. Summary: If they consistently call you down, then value bet. If they consistently fold, then bet, bet bet!

Oh and also if they always bet the turn when you check, then bet the flop, check the turn and then checkraise em with a real hand! They won't believe you.

Little adjustments like these will add up and combined with experience and you'll be good to go.
