New table 5NL good fold?

I think i made the right fold here but its a new table that i just sat down at so i dont have many reads and dont know who the maniacs are and who the loose passives are. I have played a couple of hands against the villain before and he seems loose-aggressive preflop.

At these stakes this looks like an over-pair.

what are you trying to flop, a straight? Just fold pre flop to the raiseif you are only going to continue if you flop the nuts

im looking for the straight draw since there are so many callers before me and stack sizes are large i figure i probably have odds and these tables tend to give odds to chase if you flop the 4-straight

Exactly. Especially the overpair part. I put all my money in on this board. If he has a better hand pay it. Many worse ones will pay you.

I was afraid youd say that.
Results: I fold, he shows anyway and turns over AJ.
I know i made the right play against tight players but i thought it may have been worth a call at these stakes. Im still thinking about whether i should have called even though i KNOW i would have lost if id called on this hand.

If you felt he had you beat, than fold. I think we're just saying you should be aware of the hands that will and often do go deep with you on these tables. Maybe this particular player hadn't gone deep without a hand up to that point, and that was your read. Now I see you had no read, so without a read you err on the side of caution. Well done.

I'd call it all off, I think. I don't think most players at those stakes are raising AJ UTG...and they're not letting go of AA or KK there very often.

With a read I could let it go.

Also, you might draw out or split if it's worst case and he has you kicked.

Just a note/comment on the low stakes players - usually the minraise at the lower limits is indicative of some pocket pair.
But lately I have seen people minraising AJs/o from early position. I keep this in mind in case they come out betting an ace hard on the flop - doesn't necessarily mean they are being overaggressive with their missed-set pockets.

The other goofy thing is that some goofballs will minraise in EP with AA/KK hoping for a reraise so they can come over the top - an alternative to the limp-reraise.
