good call with underpair?

I got the feeling from his betting that he was weak here, based on the minreraise on the flop, checked turn, and then random big bet on the river.. so I made the call. I was thinking that the reraise on the flop was a resteal attempt, since it is unlikely that he hit the flop, and that if he had a weak overpair, he'd bet more since it's vulnerable, and if he had a premium overpair, he'd also let me know about it. What do you think?

Depends on your read. I would play AKo from the BB almost just like this. (mighta checkraised harder on the flop though...) You're underpair is good here maybe 30% of the time. I'd fold here more often than not unless my read is solid. what about 99, TT JJ?? I can see people playing this way with a LOT of hands that beat you... FOLD.

He re-raised you. That means he has some kind of hand - not necessarily the best hand but it'll beat an underpair for sure. I read his check on the turn as a cack-handed attempt to check raise again (I do this mo0re often than I should admit).

Of course, it could be an ace-high flush draw. But it probably isn't.

At this limit, there are people that believe that 33 is a hand to show down with even when they miss and try to steal a pot...:evil:

I'll just say it again, without a solid read, it is my belief that this is a -EV call on the river. (as well as the flop call, where someone would've min-raised with an 8 many times to build a pot.)

As long as he isnt a good player this might work. Trouble is he can still be bluffing with a higher pair than 33. If hes going to bluff here he does it with 44+ and a 6 .

A very good player might do this with quads if he thinks you're paying attention.

I fold it because I cant even alot of the bluffs. It could equally be an Oh shit he didnt bet the turn and now im wasting my trips+ bet.

A very common trap-ish play in nl is to minbet/minraise the flop, check the turn, then overbet the river. If you didn't fold the flop, you should definitely fold the river.
