Big Bad Beats

Couple bad beats for my first post on FTR.

Party Poker 2/4 Hold'em (10 handed) FTR converter on zerodivide.cx

Preflop: Hero is BB with 6:heart:, 7:heart:.
UTG calls, 3 folds, MP2 calls, 4 folds, Hero checks.

Flop: (3.50 SB) 5:heart:, 8:heart:, A:club: (3 players)
Hero bets, UTG calls, MP2 calls.

Turn: (3.25 BB) 9:heart: (3 players)
Hero bets, UTG folds, MP2 raises, Hero 3-bets, MP2 calls.

River: (9.25 BB) 5:spade: (2 players)
Hero bets, MP2 raises, Hero 3-bets, MP2 caps, Hero calls.

Final Pot: 17.25 BB

Results in white below:
Hero has 6h 7h (straight flush, nine high).
MP2 has 5d 5c (four of a kind, fives).
Outcome: Hero wins 17.25 BB.

Luckily came out on top on that one. Here's another funny one:

SB checks, BB bets, MP1 folds, MP3 folds, Hero calls, SB raises, BB calls, Hero calls.

Turn: (5.50 BB) K:heart: (3 players)
SB bets, BB calls, Hero raises, SB 3-bets, BB calls, Hero caps, SB calls, BB calls.

River: (17.50 BB) 9:club: (3 players)
SB bets, BB raises, Hero 3-bets, SB caps, BB calls, Hero calls.

Final Pot: 29.50 BB

Results in white below:
SB has Ac Kd (full house, aces full of kings).
BB has 9d As (full house, aces full of nines).
Hero has 5d 5c (full house, fives full of aces).
Outcome: SB wins 29.50 BB.

Not so lucky on this one. What are the odds of three full houses?@#?#@#?

First off those arent really bad beats if you went in with the worst hand and lost.
Second, they should go in the tales of poker or bad beat forums. There is no play to be discussed in either hand.

Third, welcome to the forums. unlucky with the full house :p

Thanks for moving the post. Just realized I posted in the wrong forum myself.

One question: which hand is the worst before flop that didnt lose?

PT shows both pocket five hands to be favorites before the flop.

Your first hand is behind pre-flop, behind post-flop, way ahead post-turn, then a looser on the river.

In NL, if you had gone all-in pre-flop, or post-flop, you would have been a suckout. All-in on the turn would have been a bad beat. A bad beat is getting all your chips in with the best hand and loosing. I personally also look for an 80-20 edge or greater (i.e. all-in preflop AK vs 55 isn't a bad beat if AK wins).

So it seems to me that it's hard to have a bad beat in limit, does anyone have an answer for that?

So it's not a bad beat if you get called down to the river with top set, betting all the way, only to get raised on the river by a gutshot completing?

Also, the OP won his first hand. A straight flush beats quads I think you'll find.

Yeah, I did win the first one. I meant a bad beat for the other guy. Its early in the morning so excuse me if I make absolutely no sense :)

I see there can be a few different 'bad beat' definitions. You win the PP Bad Beat Jackpot if you hit quad 8s or higher and are beat. Both players must use both hole cards and stay until showdown. I know other places have much less strict definitions. Then again, I guess the rules of the jackpots dont really define the term either.

How is it a looser on the river? As far as I know straight flush beats quads.

there's no bad beats in limit because just about any hand always has pot odds to call all the way down.

Hence I hate playing limit.

I just ment that in both hands, the hand that was a massive favorite when all the money went in held up at the end. I didnt mention who got bad beated because i dont think any of this is really a bad beat.

When you are HU at the start of the hand (e.g. a tournament when its down to the last 2) then you are correct.

When there are more than 2 players in the hand but some of them have folded so that only 2 people have cards left then it still plays like a full table.
